Businessman Jeffrey Goldman thoroughly quarreled with his wife Ellen Donelzia, the offended husband decided that his marriage has no future, and went to the rabbi with an urgent request to help him get rid of his wife. He refused, but gave Jeffrey some advice. In the Talmud, he said, it is written that if a Jew promises a contribution to charity and does not pay it, God will smite the man’s wife. Goldman immediately informed the local synagogue of his decision to donate $150,000 to the new library.
