This is a very eccentric satirical comedy, and the satire is sometimes quite evil, there literally on everyone - on Americans, on Germans, on Russians, on Communists, on capitalists, on the police, on the wreckage of the aristocracy, on Germans-former Nazis who hide it, but did not get rid of their habits, on East Germans wearing portraits of Khrushchev, etc. In West Berlin, in the branch of the Coca-Cola company, Mr. McNamara works - a nimble careerist who moves around the world from one branch to another, but dreams of taking the post of head of the European branch in London. One day his boss calls him from America and tells him to look after his 17-year-old daughter, who was sent to Europe, so that she does not get into endless love affairs. And then the real nightmare for him begins. The daughter arrives, stays for two months instead of two weeks, moreover, during this time she manages to fall in love with the notorious proletarian and communist from East Berlin and even marry him. Her parents should be here. And McNamara shows wonders of ingenuity and solves this situation. The authors of the film went through everything, not caring at the same time neither about political correctness, nor about special subtlety, the jokes are very straightforward, beat the well-known stamps and beat the forehead. Some saw this film as Russophobia, but they can equally well be accused of Americanophobia and Germanophobia, where all appear to be perfect idiots, albeit sometimes inventive. It was quite unusual for me Billy Wilder.
