Family drama by French director Andre Teshiné "Favorite time of year" / Ma saison préférée, 1993. For several years, not talking to each other and not seeing each other brother and sister – Emily (Catherine Deneuve) and Antoine (Daniel Otoi) are forced to meet because they need somewhere to attach their already very elderly mother Bertha (Martha Villalong), who lives alone in the village. None of them can take to themselves - Emily left her husband, with whom she lived for 20 years, and lives in a hotel, although she continues to meet with him at work, since they have a common notary office, already adult children have stayed with her father, and Antoine is a hardened bachelor who does not mind to give up and walk in some night bar, but his profession is serious - he is a neurosurgeon, lives in a house without an elevator, and the mother does not want to hear about such housing, although it is clear that the mother is more attached to her son. As a result, they send her to a nursing home, although it can be seen that she absolutely does not like this decision, they seem to also, but not so much. Meanwhile, Antoine discovers that he is in great need of his sister, whom he has been very friendly with for the 20 years they have lived together, and tries to persuade her to move from the hotel to live with him. She doesn’t need anyone, she wants to live alone. Meanwhile, it turns out that things are quite bad with the mother in the nursing home, she behaves very strangely when they come to her again, he still sees that she has serious health problems, as he did not notice earlier, which his sister will rightly reproach later, even strangely, he just did not want to notice it. He takes her to the hospital where he works, where she does a full examination, identify the causes, but it is too late, she dies, this stage in their lives is coming to an end, it is difficult to say what will happen next. The ending is rather ambiguous. The film is quite good, although I can not say that the masterpiece is another story about people who do not really know what they want from life and from other people, and what they can give them and whether. The actors are good, Emily’s daughter is played by Chiara Mastroianni – the daughter of Catherine Deneuve and in this film it is very noticeable how she looks like her father.
