West German farmer Oscar Puste with a passport in the name “Peter Vanovich” was sent as a spy to the Soviet Union. And Puste's odyssey begins: he grows corn, works as a bus driver, chess coach, packer, logger, fisherman and porter. Empty tries to understand the differences between socialism and capitalism, finds contradictions between ideals and real socialism.
