The film is dedicated to Paisii Hilendarsky, the founder of the Bulgarian Renaissance, who wrote “History of Slavic Bulgaria”. Petko, a young and cheerful man, leaves his native village of Bansko, breaks up with Bena, the woman he loves, and goes to the Hilendar monastery, where his brother is the abbot.
