Saburo meets Masako, whom he marries after 7 years. A year later, Masako dies of a serious illness, and Saburo, tormented by hallucinations, falls into despair. Trying to drown out his pain with alcohol and gambling, he gradually rolls down the social ladder. It is then that life brings him together with a man nicknamed the “god of gambling”.
