A scientist, deprived of the attention of the state, and therefore of wages, and therefore of women’s attention, is going to hang himself on his own chandelier. The chandelier breaks off and grabs a piece of the ceiling, from which a rain of precious stones falls on a stunned suicide-loser. The treasure, however, is not of some century before or even the last, but quite fresh. He was hidden under the floor of his apartment by a minister living on top who robbed the diamond fund of his homeland.
