The main characters are animals, not even humans. And you need to look at the cartoon as a cartoon, not to look for some pitfalls and hidden meaning in it.
Perhaps our world is very spoiled, if you have to find fault with the fact that the main antagonists are cats. I love cats when I get home, but that’s why I can imagine what they can do. Especially wild. Especially hungry. And why not, instead of seeing it as a negative, try to bring conversation with the child (if he asks why cats are bad) to the benefits of sterilizing animals and controlling their reproduction?
But back to the movie.
For me, the most important thing is a good and bright picture. I, an adult aunt 35 years old, love cartoons because of the bright beautiful picture. And then they gave me a lot of it. Great animals, great island, great characters! Even Crusoe (and he's not the main character, remember that!) is shown perfectly. One would expect that the creators will forget about how life on the island affects a person, but no – we see a feral, overgrown man, a little forgotten how to put his thoughts into words.
We see other people who clearly show that sometimes people are worse than animals. What is it sometimes? Almost always!
We see wild cats. These are not home-loved fluffy, these are really wild animals. Don’t underestimate them.
We also see wild animals that have never met a man before, but have managed to take him into their flock.
(Personally, it surprises me that every creature there is one, the island should have been truly uninhabited long ago – and after the events of the cartoon, it will be populated exclusively by rats.)
We even showed death, albeit in the light version!
In fact, the cartoon tells about any newcomer to the existing team - if you really want to find a philosophical beginning in it.
Or just look, enjoying the picture and not trying to find the hidden meaning where it is not.
It's just a cartoon. Beautiful, having its own meaning - direct and open. But our people, apparently, just gobble up and look for a direct deep meaning in everything. And sometimes a banana is just a banana and a cartoon is just a cartoon.
7 out of 10
I would love to continue, really.
The cartoon is good, the ratings are undeservedly underestimated.
