Robot wars The second “Frontier” in general initially seemed to be some kind of unnecessary film. The portal is closed, the monsters are destroyed, the apocalypse is canceled, people win, what else? The film did not even bring fabulous profits to milk the cow, sucking from the finger such a primitive and stupid plot, which was in the sequel.
In the prologue, we will be told the previous film, shown the heroic dead and thrown into the world, where they still sell both the organs and bones of the Kaiju, and all sorts of spare parts of the dead rangers. Expect the collision of robots and monsters will take so long that many can culminate and not wait, falling asleep or tired of what is happening on the screen.
The disgusting John Boyega here is both a producer and a leading actor, and the main face of a promotional company in advertising. Who needs him – it is not clear, not Will Smith and not even Idris Elba, although in the plot just the son of the latter. The clip cut will quickly introduce us to him: hung out, stole, ran, went to prison. Flush and he's out of the camera already hitting the pilot instructor! Even not in recruits, as the genre cliché would require, everything is much worse.
Why the authors need to add to the plot of the girl-mechanic, frankly stolen from “Transformers 5” – frankly not clear. It’s pretty, and probably the main reason to watch. But I think many will not even replace the change of the actress and will accept the movie as a sequel. Why? Robots here fight three times more and more often than monsters. And in general, the film resembles much more not the first “Frontier”, but the two previous parts of “Transformers” and reclaim “Power Rangers”. Mixed in different proportions, but shot frankly tasteless.
All DeKnight has is beautiful camera spans in rare action. Like, look, we painted a cool scene without a single glue! Beauty? Unfortunately, to shoot beautifully you have to be a visionary like Del Toro. For the whole film, on the fingers of one hand you can count successful scenes and absolutely all of them got into the trailers.
What did not get into the trailers is ridiculous plot sketches, popping up at every step by sidelines for no reason and immediately breaking off, not having time to start. Criminal activity? Shut it down. Difficulty synchronizing due to childhood memories? One flashback, all right! Conflict within the squad? After 5 minutes, hugs and kisses with wishes of good luck. What can we say about the sudden appearance of the main villain - and why, and because. So spoil the character, of course, it was necessary to try very hard!
However, who should care about human characters in a film about how Transformers mix with Godzillas? But the main show begins only at the end of the third act! And then on the final battle kneading does not pull capital. A mess in a mess where robots destroy far more than monsters. A squad of some small "zergs", whose function is simply to strengthen one of the monsters. Quite a bad plan with the volcano, as if nothing more interesting could be invented.
Robots became the same type, monsters are unremarkable. Yes, in the fishless Kaiju genre fans of the film about giant monsters are forced to be content and rejoice at least this, but the sequel simply destroys the entire legacy of the film Del Toro, mocks the characters, gives out ridiculous tricks with their ears, does not capture and does not surprise. The main problem is that the film and to entertain the audience is not really.
There are few battles, and the wars between robots look completely ridiculous and not interesting. In many places, they did not bother with the graphics, which is why there is a lot of cartoonism in the frame, depriving them of faith in what is happening. But now it's all daylight! To look at each joint in detail, the budget is now much smaller than the first film. Will they? I really want to believe that I don't. So that no one has any thoughts about the third part.
It is difficult for heroes to even perform their functions, since at some point in time they are simply too much for screen time and part is simply disposed of. Someone has to die, right? Everything that happens causes a smile of bewilderment, is this such a multi-budget fan fiction for the YouTube channel from fans? It’s a real movie for movie theaters.
As a result, having failed to cope with any of its tasks, drowning with faded gamekeepers in the unforgettable music of the changed occupant, the film more or less shows signs of life in rare flashes of action with monsters, whose design you will immediately forget, leaving cinemas, where to buy toys there or fight in any games based on... Mediocrity in everything, and more than 4 points out of 10 such a movie clearly does not deserve. But the mechanic girl still turned out to be pretty, so it's not a pity for a couple of points. The movie is still disgusting.
