Modern Tokyo fairy tale “Once Upon a Time in Tokyo” is a good story about three homeless people – alcoholic Gina, transvestite Hanu and fugitive homeless Miyuki, who found a newborn baby in the dumpster. In what is happening, as in the drawing itself, sometimes far from fabulous - a lot of unpleasant characters, violence, madness, drugs, alcoholism and other dirt. And the main characters are far from the usual heroes, knights and princesses – “scum of society”, “garbage”, “rogue”, as they say about themselves. All of them were on the street because of different, not very good, actions, and all of them have their shortcomings.
But as strange as it sounds, Tokyo Godfathers is truly a fairy tale. Unusual, touching, which I believe. There is no clear confrontation between good and evil, and negative characters, at times, are not so bad. The main characters - these strange, unpleasant, rude and dirty people - with every minute cause more understanding and empathy, becoming by the end like relatives.
This is an excellent example of anime, which can be recommended even to people far from the world of animation.
