The Art of War Peter Berg, known for the extremely unsuccessful “Kingdom” and a rather controversial “Hancock” swung at the laurels of Michael Bay, brilliantly mixing into one picture the spectacular, pathetic and militant elements of paintings in the spirit of “Armageddon”, “Pearl Harbor” and the franchise “Transformers”, and made a truly grand movie!
“Sea Battle” is one of the most spectacular and best movie rides of recent years. This is a visual demonstration of the graphic capabilities of modern Hollywood, the ability to make an exciting and tense action even based on a board game. The combination of action, drive, casting and special effects creates an incredible spectacle on the screen, which regularly leads to indescribable delight!
Helicopters, fighters, ships explode. The wreckage of spaceships in the spirit of asteroids destroy highways, bridges and skyscrapers, charges in the style of huge metal balls (very increased in size analogues from "Fantasma") with almost artificial intelligence choose armed targets, military equipment, targets in the form of communication centers, while sometimes bypassing the civilian population for unnecessary - in this regard, the scene on the children's sports ground is especially good.
All this is shaped into the plot of another alien invasion, although in general, until the final third of the film, the goals of the aliens seem very vague: attack only on armed ships, fire only in response, making contact only after touch and “activation” – as if they came to play and compete, demonstrating their power in response to our “inhospitableness”. And as a result, several countries united in naval exercises are forced to confront a race very superior technically to our civilization!
In all this involved Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgard, Peter McNicol, the beautiful Brooklyn Decker, singer Riana with a character in the style of Vasquez (“Aliens”) and the heroine Michelle Rodriguez, with a bright and charismatic Taylor Kitsch in the title role. All of them perfectly demonstrate the art of war. And at the same time very distinguished Jesse Plemons and Tadanobu Asano. The truth of Neeson and Skarsgård on the overall timekeeping of the picture is still very lacking, they should significantly expand the roles in the part of the action scenes, especially since the two-hour timekeeping of the picture flashes just in one breath, causing a desire to review the film more and more!
Having unfolded the plot of the board game on the screen, the authors approached the process in very detail and thoughtfully. I must pay tribute to the brothers Erich and John Hober - the writers of the chic "RED" did not fail! Instead of pitting two nations against each other, we got an alien invasion, with an excuse for both game balls and a limited field of action. At times when it is impossible to identify the position of enemy ships, firing begins on the “grid” reminding us of the already known “tetrad Sea Battle” with coordinates in the spirit of D4, and hits “passing”, “hurt” and “killed”, though on a much larger scale than we are used to, and with a different set of operating “ships”.
Composer of “Transformers” and many other wonderful paintings Steve Jablonsky again pleased with an amazing soundtrack, powerful and clinging to the soul, pathos and extremely pleasant. The best compositions, however, sound in the final part of the picture and in the credits, but throughout the action you can enjoy a chic selection of music in the spirit of AC / DC - as drive and cool as the movie itself!
American jersey patriotism in all its glory demonstrates the capabilities of the fleet and the finale even in time for successful aviation, making the film a direct visual agitation for recruitment into the military. The transformation of the main character from a loser and a dodger to a brave and courageous lieutenant who knows how to make strong-willed decisions, the general power of military savvy over hostile technologies, and even the stunningly beautiful girl of photomodel appearance that goes to the military. There is not enough except for beautiful and cool cars - but this is just the field of "Transformers", which was extremely lacking in sea battles, in abundance shown in this incredibly cool blockbuster.
Explosions and shootings make up the vast majority of the video sequence, producing a strong action movie on the screen. Stepping to save the world veterans of the naval forces in the spirit of the astronauts of “Armageddon” cause a storm of emotions and applause. Epic action often goes up in scale when there are the most vivid and colorful events of the picture, the actions of the characters become the most courageous, and the overall action shakes the beauty and quality of special effects.
Peter Berg made a perfect entertainment movie in all proportions, having assembled a wonderful cast in which everyone showed themselves properly to be remembered and liked. Grand special effects, great musical accompaniment and solid action with easy respite for decision-making, brainstorming the picture of invasion and reloading of ammunition, after which again and again the outstanding spectacle pleases the eye, and for the characters really worry. A powerful Hollywood blockbuster, made at the maximum of technical capabilities, and a real entertaining film masterpiece, completely devoid of flaws and minuses.
