The painting “Villon’s Wife” (Villon’s Wife) is dedicated to the relationship between Ohtani, the famous writer, alcoholic and tyrant and Sati, his patient wife. To pay off the owners of the bar, where the husband owes a large amount of money, Sati offers to take a pledge. Sati is extraordinarily devoted to her husband despite all the humiliations she endures from him. In a post-war Japan, being loyal to a man becomes not just an obligation, but a guarantee of survival.
