Killer Elite The plot of how someone hires the best killers to this elite of killers for a big jackpot took up the most dangerous work, perhaps not so original or new, but in this picture is presented with such refinement and memorable bright elements that the film falls into the soul and want to watch it again and again.
The point is not even that the professional Statham here are the company of other bright personalities, already in the team game he shone, as in the “Robbery on Baker Street”, “Robbery in Italian”, and “The Expendables”, but in the variety of landscapes and scenes in which the plot of the picture unfolded. Elegant prologue with explosions and shooting, deserts with earth bees, forest landscapes of Australia and chases in the urban jungle on the roofs and walls of high-rise buildings - all this is breathtaking to the full program, and the correct age rating guarantees the presence of bloody cruelty and naked female bodies to the delight of the public.
The spectacle turned out to be excellent, though sometimes too long and too long layering versions of epilogues, instead of a grandiose ending. However, the correct finale did not stop, and the dynamics of the picture is still very decent. The variety of action and tricks with some original ideas is very pleasing visual saturation. For example, an episode in caves or a muzzle with a chair, and, of course, the final chic chase minutes earlier!
Colorful characters are even more interesting when it would seem that the plot can be predicted in advance even in a couple of simple options. And if Jason Statham, as always, turned out to be the coolest and most combative, then it is necessary to give the post to the charisma of Aden Young (who turned out to be the most spectacular killer), the wisdom of Robert De Niro (who says the most soulful and correct things, besides participating in shootings), and of course the charm and beauty of Yvonne Strahovski - she is really a diamond of this film, despite the fact that flashbacks with her sometimes seem superfluous.
Honestly, much more superfluous was the character of Clive Owen, scenes with which really interfere with the variety of meanings of this word. He interferes, as directly plot the main characters (apparently, life killers raspberries did not seem), and directly - completely in vain, sometimes pulling the blanket on themselves. His hero is boring, template to horror, steals the timekeeping of other, much more interesting and bright characters on the one hand, and on the other, completely slows down the dynamics of the picture. Absolutely superfluous in its storyline character. However, without him, it would not have been such a stunning final action, divided into two phases. So for all its downsides, Owen was appropriate.
As for the main professional of the picture, Jason is “our everything”. Statham this time plays not a ruthless eliminater without fear and reproach, but a person with compassion and feelings. A hero who does not want to kill innocents, who does not want to kill without a reason, and generally dreams of quitting with the criminal and criminal for the sake of great true love, which he advises everyone else. And according to the law of the genre, even "tied with the dark past" is taken "for the most dangerous task in his life." The spirit of old-school fighters perfectly permeates this movie in the best genre traditions, and the main militant hero of our time again brilliantly copes with his task.
Such a thriller-action in principle could be much more revealed in all its charms, and the characters to work a little better, but he did not declare to be the best of the best. After all, Gary McKendry is a debutant director in a big movie, and getting such actors, and even making a really strong, good movie without censorship and snot, is a huge achievement! So all fans of good and high-quality action films should like the picture, and Statham fans are unlikely to be disappointed - he still knows perfectly well what films to star in and who he plays! That's always great!
