The Poet's Salary, a documentary film by French filmmakers, tells the story of the difficult work of a linguist, a man so passionate about his work that he is willing to live in extremely inaccessible places to learn the languages of peoples on the verge of extinction. Alexander François, a linguist at the National Research Centre, chose the north of Vanuatu as his research area, several of which he had studied before. Now he has returned to the lost islands to learn another of the endangered languages.
