Many films and TV series about how to make a movie, a little less about how the theater lives. For quite some time I had a download not very well-known Canadian TV series with a rather high rating Slings and Arrows, 2003-2006, 3 seasons of 6 episodes, directed by Peter Wellington. So I finally saw it. The action takes place in the theater, which hosts the so-called Shakespeare festivals of New Berbage. In each season we see one of the performances – in the first season it is Hamlet, in the second – Macbeth, in the third – King Lear. Suddenly dies (he fell asleep in a drunken state on the roadway, is moved by a van) the artistic director of the theater Oliver Wells (Stephen Wimette), in his place one of the new members of the Council of the American Holly Day, trying to crush everything under himself, wants to push his candidacy, but at the will of the head of the council appoint the famous actor Jeffrey Tennant (Paul Grosss), who worked closely in the past with Oliver, but at one point could not play, it happened during the play, got into a mental hospital, and then organized some small theater. Jeffrey takes up this case, but he is constantly haunted by the ghost of Oliver, with whom he conducts conversations and disputes, sometimes in the presence of other people who do not see, of course, the ghost, which often causes, to put it mildly, surprise others. In the same theater, his ex-girlfriend Ellen (played by Paul Gross’ wife Martha Burns), who is currently entertaining with young lovers, at some time they reunite, then separate, then reunite. Very colorful and other characters - financial Director Richard Smith-Jones (Mark McKinney), then falling under the influence of the mentioned Holly, then associated with the alleged advertising firm, organized by a professional crook, which almost leads to failure, but in the end the scheme works, his assistant Anna (Susan Coyne), very conscientious and rather stupid, unlike his boss, a woman, a guest director and a perfect freak Darren Nichols (Don McKellar) and others, there are many. Despite the presence of some even tragic moments, all the action is in an acutely satirical, sometimes black and humorous key, the actors play great, so I watched the series with interest, I liked it, but I think that I would not recommend it to everyone, only fans of this genre.
