Brother and sister The life of the Austrian poet, however, as well as any other creative cultural figure, in cinema is the transformation of emotional experiences into an emotionally rich visual series, and it all depends only on how the creators manage to express everything that is essentially hidden in thoughts and in the soul. Taboo. The soul has no place on earth" turned out to be a really expressive film, beautifully staged in the form of a visual and catchy content due to the brilliant acting presentation.
The main characters of George and Greta love each other for many years, but this love should be shamefully hidden from society, because they are brother and sister. He is a poet, who is either in depression, then in impulses of inspiration, then with a desire for loneliness, then with a splash of passion and the need for a sister, she is a pianist who dreams of becoming a student of a famous composer and giving concerts, like her brother she also tries to distance herself and get freedom, independence, but soon again realizes that there is no closer and beloved person than George.
The plot of the picture in fact fits into its own synopsis, especially not supplementing it with some intriguing details and turns and significant events, it just needs to be watched, since the value of the picture turned out to be primarily visual - how the scenes are built, how brightly the lyrical line stretches, how many emotions the actors give, giving their whole soul to their roles. The general range of moods replaces saturated erotic episodes in disturbing scenes of emotional torment, again dilutes with gentle colors the strong love of the main characters, and again splashes various trials on their share. The atmosphericly recreated historical entourage plunges even deeper into the ongoing action, and the cyclically built dynamics of events does not let you get bored as you watch.
The only thing the film is scolding for is its lack of attention to the beginning and ending. The picture includes a separate period of life, which, although very saturated with the storm of relationships, but unfortunately deprived of flashbacks, deprived of the prerequisites for the beginning of such love, especially significant scenes: the first kiss, the first declaration of love, the first night together. The past is left far behind the scenes and it is never returned during the action, presenting a certain slice of events. And in the same way, they cut off for no apparent reason, telling in two paragraphs what happened to the heroes and how the lives of both members of the Trakl family ended. All this could be clearly demonstrated by reducing at least some other episodes of the narrative, if the hour and a half frame was so important. But in general, such a story can be unfolded for two and two and a half hours without the slightest drop of boredom, it is only a matter of seeing this story by the director and directly the talent of the director.
In everything else, a beautiful whole canvas turned out, which is beautiful in its irregularity of flashing and fading emotions, very unfolding shows the extremes of love from jealousy to reckless passion, from the impulses of the flesh to the flight of the soul, from tenderness to rudeness and further, deep into human nature. Cinema emotionally and headlong immerses in its problems of non-standard love, rejected by society.
Lars Eidinger and Peri Baumeister did a great job with their roles, and Rainer Bock added sparks to the film, transforming an already difficult situation into a very specific love triangle. An exciting and sensual story received a very worthy embodiment, rich in romance, eroticism and passion, and at the same time a quote directly from Trakl’s poems, in particular “Sunset”, which came out gloomy, tragic and depressed, with an aesthetic of sadness and Gothic. The love story of the characters in general is also very tragic, but still notes of happiness in joint minutes can overcome adversity and sorrow. Beautiful and touching movie, shot and played with the soul.
