Cult of stupidity The Spanish picture based on the stories of Kim Monzo consists of three parts and a total of 15 miniature stories, both different and related by interesting interweavings. The parts themselves also turned out to be very different in their form of expression, and it does not make much sense to tell about each specific story, such a mixture of comedy and drama is worth watching with your own eyes.
The Ventura Vons painting is a visual cult of stupidity, ridiculing in a variety of forms this human feature, defect and vice. Funny comedy is replaced by black humor, then goes into frank farce and banter, plunges into cruel drama or resurfaces in the light colors of romance. The film is full of feelings, death and eroticism, contrasting humor and drama on an amazing level, presenting their ideas in a very bold performance.
Part one is a standard set of almanacs of intertwined everyday stories. A man visits his gay father in a nursing home, his son with a serious wound is forced to listen to the protracted monologues of an indifferent teacher, an office worker then tears down ads, attracting the attention of a young man, these very ads posting, then tries to commit suicide, and the topic of suicide is for some reason the most popular, flirting in the plot from beginning to end. From the dialogues of the first story to the climax of the third part, whizzing the leitmotif through the vast majority of stories. And even the most vivid story of the first part - the "visual" letter of a former girlfriend with a guy who committed suicide is involved in the desire to leave his life, in addition to all the shown sexual adventures.
In the second part of “A Thousand Stupids” everything turns into theatrical absurdity and costumed farce, the motives of myths and legends are changed in the spirit of the sketch troupe “Monty Python” with crazy and bold ideas that risk to cause from delight to sharp criticism. What if Mary did not want a child from God? What if Wilhelm Thel's son decided to repeat the feat with his father's apple? What if Sleeping Beauty could be awakened not by a kiss, but by a much more adult and intimate method, and what if there were two Sleeping Beautyes? The most humorous, stupid and funny part of the picture, it is extremely daring manner gives crazy bright fantasies in the form of a cheap TV show. Once again, black humor, evil irony and sexual scenes sing the hymn of human stupidity side by side with the characters of the plots. The story of Robin Hood and the aforementioned Sleeping Beauties are bound to make the strongest impression on the audience!
By the third part, there is only one long story with the participation of the screenwriter of all previous short films, whose characters are waiting for him, and he is forced to take care of his elderly parents who dream of euthanasia. The strangest and most dramatic story, after the story of an old woman who threw away all her property (from part one). It is suitable for the final generalization and epilogue, but does not leave such strong emotions as the collection of plots of the two previous blocks of the picture.
The impressive and memorable spectacle is perfectly staged and very vividly played, sweeps literally in one breath, but the polyphony of the emotions evoked turned out to be too contrasting that everything shown looked like a holistic work. A diverse set of moods and content needs to be adjusted, although someone may like this feature. The work is clearly worthy of attention and good assessment, art-house comedy in colorful performance!
