Bosnia Love Story! The debut picture of Angelina Jolie, shot by her own script, exceeded all my expectations. The film "In the Land of Blood and Honey" is made in the genre of military drama and is dedicated to the events of recent history. The action of the picture takes place in Sarajevo and its surroundings and tells about the period of the beginning of the war.
The idea to make a film based on the events in Bosnia came to Angelina Jolie when she came to Bosnia and Herzegovina as a Goodwill Ambassador. Originally, the script of the film “In the Land of Blood and Honey” was called “Untitled Bosnian Love Story”. Surprisingly touching revealed the inevitability and hopelessness of love of people of different religions in wartime.
Angelina Jolie’s film In the Land of Blood and Honey was filmed in Budapest and Esztergom in November 2010. The film is set in Bosnia-Herzegovina, an area called the Balkans. Translated from Turkish
Bal - honey, kan - Blood. Thus, the title of the film "In the Land of Blood and Honey" contains a direct indication of the place of the events described.
In July 2010, when the film “In the Land of Blood and Honey” entered the final stage, the producers of the film turned to Zeljko Mitrović, a Serbian financier and media mogul, and asked for permission to use his sound studio. Zeljko Mitrović refused to cooperate with the film crew of the film In the Land of Blood and Honey: I bow to Angelina Jolie as an actress and a person, but, unfortunately, she is prejudiced towards the Serbs. I do not want to have the slightest relation to someone who once again presents the Serbs as complete scoundrels.
The film was shot in two versions: in English and Bosnian.
All actors are from the former Yugoslavia, many survived the war years without leaving their country. When creating the film “In the Land of Blood and Honey”, Angelina Jolie worked closely with them, consulting on all issues, asking them about the time.
Performers of the main roles of the film Zane Marjanovic and Gorane Kostice play so truthfully that the film is simply fascinating with its realism.
The film was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film. Received Image Awards 2012 (Best Foreign Language Picture); Stanley Kramer Award 2012; prize at the Sarajevo Film Festival 2011.
These awards say only one thing - this film is worth watching! 10 out of 10
