The characters in the movie look pretty dark. The main character does not have a special purpose - he seems to want to be cured, but does nothing for this (except that he drinks). He doesn’t have a character; people around him decide for him. He's just a body rolling around the screen. Among the secondary characters, there are also no bright and interesting characters - some of them are spelled out or played a little better, some slightly worse, but this is almost imperceptible, because they all merge into a homogeneous human scenery.
The only thing to praise the film for is its vitality. He is so eager for realism and naturalism that he has almost crossed the line between feature and documentary film. But is that good? I can't say that. Art cinema involves a certain transformation of reality, the strengthening of some of its features and the muffling of others in order to cause the viewer some certain emotion or convey to him a certain idea. What are the emotions of this film? Boredom. Watching it is like looking out the window, it seems that something is happening, but it is better to spend time on something else. Does he have an idea? Not really. Unless you think of it as an idea, you know, some people die alone? This is somehow too small and simple for a critically acclaimed creation.
The film as a whole makes a negative impression. It is faded, boring and leaves behind a sense of wasted time. Maybe it's better to just look out the window for two hours.
