Alexander was born on October 1, 1880 in Odessa, in a large Jewish family. As a child, the boy left the gymnasium and ran away from home. For a while he wandered the streets as a beggar, but later he was sheltered by Zhytomyr official K. K. Roche. The man loved poetry and had a great influence on the creative fate of Sasha.
Time flew. After serving two years in the training team of the 20th Galitsky Regiment, Black got a job at the Novoselitsk customs and is fond of lyrics. In the summer of 1904, his Diary of the Resonator was published in the local newspaper Volynsky Vestnik. A year later, when he moved to St. Petersburg, his satirical poems were published in the magazines Almanac, Spectator, Masks, Leshy and others, which brought him wide fame.
In 1906 Alexander went to Germany, where he studied at the University of Heidelberg. Upon his return to Russia, the poet publishes collections of his poems “Satire”, “To all the poor in spirit”, “Involuntary tribute”, writes children’s books, and is also published in magazines: “Contemporary”, “Argus”, “Sun of Russia”, and in newspapers: “Kiev thought”, “Russian rumor”, “Odessa news”.
During the First World War, Black began writing prose. His most popular works: the story “Miracle Summer”, children’s books: “Cat Sanatorium”, “Dream of Professor Patrashkin”, “Ruby Book”, “Squirrel-Seafarer”, “Diary of Fox Mickey”.
By 1929, Sasha Black bought a plot of land in the south of France, where he was building his house. Russian writers, musicians and artists often visited him.
The famous writer died suddenly. On August 5, 1932, he helped extinguish a fire at a nearby farm, after which he came home, went to rest and never got up again - he had a heart attack. /
