Writer Katarzyna Grochola was born on July 18, 1957 in the Polish town of Krotoszyna. Her mother was a specialist in Polish history studies, and her father worked as a lawyer. She graduated from Julius Stovaska High School in Warsaw. As Katarzyna herself admitted, there were a lot of books in the house where she grew up, and she always tried to write. It seemed to her that one of the ways of normal work is literary creativity and reading. She tried to create her first manuscript at the age of seven. And inventing her heroes, she imagined herself in their place, living their fates. Katarzyna also had a strong belief that before becoming a writer, one should study medicine. But the doctor did not come out of her: in her medical career, she did not go beyond a nurse. But it was a real school of life. At the age of 19, 46 people died in the hospital. Since then, she has become convinced that man is not God and is far from omnipotent. Before publishing the first book, she had to work as a proofreader, and director of the customs warehouse, and actress, and typist, and even a consultant in the matrimonial bureau.
Russian readers are familiar with Katagina Grohol from her “very female” trilogy “Frogs and Angels”, which included the novels “Never in Life”, “Heart on a Bandage” and “I’ll Show You”. Reading them, women often identify with the main character, whose problems are so similar to their own.
In her two collections of stories – “Statement of Love” and “Power of Attorney for Happiness” – Grohol showed that she can not only describe everyday troubles and love adventures in an ironic manner, but also be a writer, that is, take the word more seriously, create a real literary text. Publishing house "AST" has released a collection of "Statement of Love" in the genre of urban novel, and I think Grochole is not offended to be limited to women's literature. It’s simple, but important: love and life. This is a woman’s story in its best sense.
Katarzhina is the author of feuilletons and screenwriter of television series. Winner of many awards, including the awards of the pan-Polish book distribution network “AS”, “EMPIK” (2001, 2002) and the publishing distinction “IKAR” (2002). Her works have been translated into Russian, German and Slovak.
Katarzyna has a golden retriever and two cats. Grohol’s daughter is a journalist, and her grandson is Anthony.
