Alexander Alexandrovich Fadeev (1901-1956) was one of those people who were forced by a false civic duty to serve the Stalinist system. In his post, for many years leading writers' organizations of various levels, Fadeev officially gave the impetus to repressive actions against Zoshchenko, Platonov, Akhmatova, and informally tried to support his colleagues, secretly collecting money for those who were on the edge of poverty. This duality drove him crazy and led to the fact that a naturally noble man began to drink, and then committed suicide, leaving a note of such content that KGB officers did not allow it to be published until 1990.
Life began promisingly: as a child, Alexander independently mastered literacy, watching his sister’s lessons, and then composed many fairy tales and stories, striking adults with his early writing gift. It is not known how many wonderful works would have come out of his pen if the fate of Fadeev had not crossed the revolution. Having believed in the work of the fathers (the parents of the future writer were convinced revolutionaries), Alexander Alexandrovich went to the partisans and fought in the Far East. Later, this allowed him to write realistic novels “The Defeat” and “The Last of Udege”.
These books were almost the only ones in Fadeev’s creative destiny: over time, he was completely loaded with social activities. And only the novel "Young Guard" became another manifestation of his artistic talent, and at the same time - a big problem associated with the statements of party officials.
Alexander Alexandrovich, who during the Great Patriotic War was a front-line correspondent, learned that near Krasnodon, in the pit of one of the mines, the corpses of boys and girls were found, brutally tortured by the Nazis. All of them were members of the patriotic organization "Young Guard" and in their own way tried to fight the enemy. This story so shocked the literary and civil consciousness of Fadeev that he almost in one breath wrote the novel “Young Guard”, dedicated to the dead Komsomol members. However, officials did not like the fact that the book does not have a “leading line of the party”, and Fadeev had to break his plan, adjusting to the stereotypes of the leadership.
All this could not but affect his decision to return the ticket. Alexander Alexandrovich was preparing for his suicide for a long time. He no longer extinguished his conscience with alcohol, but wrote farewell letters to those to whom he wanted to say the most important thing. In the archives of the KGB kept his last revelation: "My life as a writer loses all meaning, and I with great joy, as deliverance from this vile existence, where you are attacked by meanness, lies and slander, I leave life." The last hope was to at least say this to the people who rule the state, but for 3 years, despite my requests, they can not even accept me. Please bury me next to my mother.
Alexander Fadeev shot himself with a revolver at his dacha in Peredelkino, but his last request was not fulfilled. All those “strongmen of this world” ordered otherwise – the nationally famous writer was buried at the Novodevichy cemetery. /
