She was born in Thornton, Yorkshire, to a priest. She received a home education (mostly her older sister Charlotte taught her), worked as a governess for some time. In 1846, Anne published 21 poems in a joint collection of the Bronte sisters Poems by Carrer, Ellis and Acton Bell. A year later, her novel Agnes Gray was published, and a year later, the novel The Worker from Wildfield Hall. In May 1849, Anne Brontë died suddenly of consumption.
