Andrei Stepanovich Plakhov (born 1950) is a Russian film critic and film critic, a columnist for the newspaper Kommersant.
Andrei Stepanovich Plakhov was born on September 14, 1950 in Starokonstantinov, Khmelnytsky region of the Ukrainian SSR (now Ukraine). Graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Lviv University (1972) and the Faculty of Film Studies of VGIK (1978). In 1982 he defended his thesis on the work of Luchino Visconti.

Andrei Stepanovich Plakhov was born on September 14, 1950 in Starokonstantinov, Khmelnytsky region of the Ukrainian SSR (now Ukraine). Graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Lviv University (1972) and the Faculty of Film Studies of VGIK (1978). In 1982 he defended his thesis on the work of Luchino Visconti.
In 1977-88 he worked in the department of culture of the newspaper Pravda. During the years of perestroika, he was secretary of the board of the Union of Cinematographers and chairman of the Conflict Commission on Creative Issues, which released more than 200 films banned by Soviet censorship. At the same time, he began to actively cooperate with foreign colleagues within the framework of FIPRESCI. In 1987-91 and from 1997 to 2005 he was vice-president of this organization, in 2005 he was elected president of FIPRESCI.
Repeatedly was a member of the jury of international film festivals (Berlin, Locarno, Tokyo, San Sebastian). Within the framework of the Moscow Film Festival organizes its own author programs. In addition, he is the initiator of seasonal minifests “Euphoria”, held in the Moscow cinema “Roland”, where he personally presents the most interesting in his opinion pictures of the upcoming rental.
Since 1972 he has been regularly published, cooperates with many Russian and foreign publications ("Art of Cinema", "Session", "Sight and Sound", etc.), is a regular film reviewer of the newspaper "Kommersant". Author of more than ten books about Soviet and modern world cinema. Winner of several professional awards, including the Film Press Award to the best film journalist of the year (for a series of publications in the newspaper Kommersant and the magazine Art of Cinema, 1994) and the Award of the Guild of Film Critics and Film Critics of Russia (for the book “Only 33 Stars of World Film Direction”, 1999).
Since 2005, he has been president of the International Film Press Federation (FIPRESSI). He is currently an honorary president.
