Camillo Boito is an Italian architect and writer. Camillo was born in Rome on October 30, 1836 in a creative family – his father was an artist, his older brother became a writer and composer. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, and in 1856 was promoted to adjunct professor of architecture. From 1860 until 1908 he taught at the Academy of Brera in Milan, and from 1865 also at the Higher Technical Institute of Milan. His main activity was architecture. Camillo was born in Rome on October 30, 1836 in a creative family – his father was an artist, his older brother became a writer and composer. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, and in 1856 was promoted to adjunct professor of architecture. From 1860 until 1908 he taught at the Academy of Brera in Milan, and from 1865 also at the Higher Technical Institute of Milan.
His main activity was architecture. He was much engaged in the restoration of architectural monuments, including an outstanding example of Venetian architecture of the XV century Palazzo Cavalli-Franchetti. In 1861, he rebuilt the ancient, XI century, the city gate of Milan Porta Ticinese, opening two side arches in them, in 1895 he reconstructed (the original was lost centuries ago) the Altar of St. Anthony of Padua in the Basilica in Padua.
He died in Milan on June 28, 1914.
