He was born on December 23, 1957 in Port Chester, New York. After graduation in 1976, he began to study more in-depth physics at the University of Connecticut, but interrupted his studies and entered the Boston Conservatory, after which he continued his studies at Columbia University, where he studied orchestral conducting in depth.
For more than 17 years Melillo worked in schools as a music teacher. In the early 1980s, along with 275 other teachers, he took part in a program aimed at studying how music can achieve improved knowledge in mathematics and physics.
As a composer and conductor, Stephen Melillo has been working for over thirty-five years. He is the author of music for more than thirty television productions, several films ("They bite", "Aurora", "Aurora").
