Vyacheslav Afonin at that time worked as an editor and photojournalist. He was a photographer. Apparently, this passion and led him not to the path of cinema. He entered the State Institute of Cinematography named after Sergey Gerasimov. He studied at Victor Mann's advertising workshop. He graduated with honors in 1996.
Initially, between 1997 and 2003, Afonin directed mainly documentaries and feature shorts. In the list of his then works – the tape “A Quiet Angel Flew” (1995), “Preface” (1996), “Strike Force: Air Force”, “Strike Force: Made in Russia” (2003)

Since 2003, Afonin has been working on full-length films. He is the director-director of such films as “Dreams about the fifth season” (2003), “Prisoned by Time” (2006), “Season of Discoveries” (2008).
Vyacheslav Afonin teaches at the First National School of Television. He is a member of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia, a member of the Guild of Film Directors of the Russian Federation.
