Edmund Meisel is an Austrian and German composer. Maisel was born in Vienna on August 14, 1894. Thanks to his mother, the pianist got acquainted with the world of music early and began to show great interest in it. He studied at a music school, studied composition, from the age of 18 he began to play the violin in various orchestral groups, since 1918 he has already performed as an opera and concert conductor.
In 1925, he became famous for his soundtrack to the Battleship Potemkin, a year later wrote the music for an experimental documentary film.
"Berlin - Symphony of a Big City" In 1927 he again worked with Eisenstein on the music for his October. He also collaborated with other directors, German and Soviet, published articles on the theory of music for films.
The composer died suddenly, at the age of 36 – on November 14, 1930, from complications after a simple operation to remove the appendix. His music was forgotten for many years and interest in it awoke again only in the 1990s, when the Battleship Potemkin was restored.
