In 1914 she graduated from the 1st studio of the Moscow Art Theatre and became an actress of this theater (since 1924 - Moscow Art Theatre 2).
From 1928 to 1934 she was an actress at the Theatre of Revolution.
The actress changed many theaters, but her main hobby was working with the younger generation: she taught acting in the studio of E. Vakhtangov, the theater-studio named after M. Yermolova, and since 1924 she focused on GITIS. During the war, she worked at the Mossovet Theater in Almaty, staged performances at the Kazakh Drama Theater named after M. Auezov. Since 1942 she taught at VGIK, and after the war, in 1949, together with Boris Bibikov, she headed the acting studio. She made an invaluable contribution to the education of several generations of filmmakers. Among her students: N. Mordyukova, R. Nifontova, M. Bulgakova, V. Tikhonov, N. Rumyantseva, S. Druzhinina, L. Kuravlev, S. Chiaureli, T. Nosova, L. Sokolova, M. Vinogradova, T. Semina.
In 1948-1950 - artistic director of the Moscow Central Children's Theatre.
In 1939, Olga Pyzhova was the first Soviet actress to receive the title of professor at the Department of Acting.
For many years she led national studios at GITIS (Karakalpak, Uzbek, Tatar, Tajik, Lezgin, Turkmen, Moldavian). Her students formed the nucleus of many republican theaters.
Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1947), Tatar ASS (1949) and Tajik SSR (1964).
Laureate of the USSR State Prize (1950).
She passed away on November 8, 1972.
