Russian conductor, composer, musical figure. Czech nationality. In 1861 he settled in St. Petersburg, worked as a Kapellmeister of the orchestra of Prince N. B. Yusupov. From 1863 the assistant to the Kapellmeister and organist, from 1867 the second, from 1869 the first Kapellmeister of the Mariinsky Theatre; for more than half a century he directed the largest Russian opera house. The headmaster raised the performing level of the team to high skill. He staged many performances, including operas by P. I. Tchaikovsky, N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov. M. P. Mussorgsky, C. A. Kui, A. N. Serov. He also performed as a symphony conductor (in 1869-81 he directed concerts of the Russian Musical Society). The compositional activity of Napravnik is less significant and original. In the repertoire of modern theaters, only the opera “Dubrovsky” (according to Pushkin, 1895) has been preserved. Mature works reveal a closeness to the Russian school, especially to Tchaikovsky. He owns operas “Nzhegorodets” (1868), “Harold” (1885), orchestral, choral works, chamber and instrumental ensembles, piano plays, romances, etc.
