Born on the Don, in the village of Kamenskaya, in the family of a wealthy Cossack. During the Civil War he went to fight in the Red Army, after the war he worked in Donetsk newspapers. In 1925 he moved to Leningrad, worked in the magazine “New Robinson”, actively participated in the creation of children’s magazines “Chizh” and “Hedgehog”. Editor, poet, prose writer, Oleynikov participated in magazines also as a character - traveler Makar Sverepy. He organized the first children's radio broadcasts.
