Leopoldo Alas y Ureña was a Spanish writer, one of the largest literary critics of the late XIX century. In literature, Leopoldo Alas y Urenha is known more under the pseudonym Clarin (Spanish Clarín, “horn”). As a critic, he was a supporter of naturalism, but his writings as a writer were more critical realism. Alas y Urenha is considered the inspiration of a whole galaxy of young Spanish writers who broke with romantic literature of the second half of the XIX century.
