“If you like to ride on the roof, come in.” No, of course, any work of art has a right to exist. And this film also has a certain artistic value, there is no dispute.
But again, it belongs to the style of kitsch at its junction with surrealism. I wish Satoshi Kona or Masaaki Yuasa were surreal. The authors go much further in their madness, poured on the audience from the screens. All the brightest, frostbitten ideas that no one would have allowed them to implement in the mainstream, they decided to implement in independent cinema.
The budget here, to be honest, is not huge. Accordingly, the animation and detail of the drawing will not be the most brilliant. However, the authors quite manage to sell it as a chip that works.
Strangely and paradoxically, but in all this madness there is a clear, understandable and consistent plot, with twists, development and disclosure of characters. And they turned out one more colorful than the other, both the main and "secondary actors".
And in the rest - even being a lover of products like MIND GAME, I would not recommend this work - it is very much for fans of powerful movies. My colleagues and admins will forgive me, but if MIND GAME can be compared to the classic “grass”, then Dead Leaves is a tough, monstrously dangerous synthetic.
