"Dead like me", although it attracts initially with its concept and idea, nothing really interesting in the end can not offer. The series tells about young Georgia, who one sunny day dies an accidental and frankly stupid death. However, her soul continues to live in the form of a gloomy reaper, whose duty is to take the dead and safely escort them to the afterlife.
It sounds good for a serial project, especially for the beginning of zero. However, the matter does not go further. I honestly watched six or seven episodes of the first season and I couldn’t push myself anymore. Dead Like Me is a project that tells no story. No, of course, he pours philosophy, teaches to appreciate life, and the heroine only in her postmortem begins to understand what she lost. That's not bad, but! The problem is that there is no single story against this background. At least in the series I watched. Just disparate thoughts and ideas.
However, I was personally upset by the characters. In this kind of project, the actors, the chemistry between them, are incredibly important. And I didn’t see anything interesting about the characters here, nor did I see any connection between them, although it is assumed from the plot. No charisma, no charm. At the same time, the heroes cannot be called cardboards, they are well written, but at the same time they still remain some lifeless, fake.
The verdict: 'Dead as I am' didn't fascinate me personally. Although the concept and interest in its essence, the execution of the idea is very mediocre.
Destination: Death: Stories of the Dead, Where Pieces of Good Still Defeat Evil
Season 2
Tales from the crypt, romance, family ties, the relationship of the dead and the living, the other world, death and life continue. The series was shot in an era when only big American cinema and television crossed the line of no return, when sex stepped to its full height on the big screen not only in the plots, but even in the titles of mass films and TV series.
Our cinema is still more in the zone of kindness, good and kind words, mainly. Yes, there is an age rating of 18+, because each series someone dies, there is blood, deaths are sometimes creepy, but all its beauty is not shown, it is not a destination of any kind.
There's something poetic about the series. There is an increasing sense of poetry. At the same time, the second season is much less rich in special effects or something that began to attract the audience in the second half of the zero. There is no Marvel showmanship, a kind of Hollywood bravado and what attracts movies now. Here is something different that now, in the 20s of the 21st century, tastes like freshness, fresh breeze, sea salt taste after swimming in a clear sea. But this may not be to everyone's liking - someone is used to certain taste preferences in film and television and does not intend to change them either for something new or for the well-forgotten old.
It feels more and more like something that can no longer be done. Everything new is too new and too naked. If there is already a dead end, then it is time to move in the opposite direction, like a train reaching Leningrad, soon again go back to Moscow, back all the same way.
Someone's gonna like everything in this movie. Everything here is and will be the way he loves. Even the Russian voiceover is such, not fashionable, but not old ... there is something from the typical Soviet in it, but there are already glimpses of the newfangled.

But the winds of time have not gone away. The world, anticipating its imminent end in the Millennium, increasingly shows the Apocalypse, and paints it in a peculiar and false way, if we keep in mind the book of Revelations of God for a cast of truth. In this movie there are references to non-traditional themes, there is immorality, lies, greed, theft, and actively manifested by the main characters. But all this is still not as caustic as it will become a little later. It seems that in this movie, after all, some grain of true good still conquers evil.
The thought worm of this series ate the brain, loosened the soil, made it more airy, more like a sponge absorbing.
I have watched a lot of movies and TV series. And I will tell you without crooking my heart - almost ninety percent of the movie I saw evoke an unpleasant, but crystal clear feeling about wasted time. With this same cinematic creation, everything is on the contrary. He's funny. In some ways naive, in others cynical. But he's good. Of course, there are all sorts of strangely unpleasant “Americanisms” in the series. Be it an enemy toilet seat from the Russian Mir space station. Although it was flooded two years before the events that were indicated in the film, in addition, the orbital blocks do not have toilets in the usual view, there is a vacuum cleaning system that has nothing to do with the toilet. If you compare it with a vacuum cleaner, there are some common properties. Take, for example, the wedding of homosexuals. Men jump to catch a bouquet of flowers. Sounds like fun. Yes, and jumping fun and very fervent. But it's basically a quiet horror. If poor, naive cowboys moved from their time to modern America and saw all kinds of tolerant things, they would all shoot themselves, every single one of them. That's not the kind of America the guys built. But what am I talking about?! I'm sorry, I'm so confused!
So, closer to the topic. Despite some, let’s say, “strange behavior,” it turned out that the series is extremely pleasant. He's quite dramatic. Moderately comic, moderately cynical. All in moderation. And even blunders, and those in moderation. However, throughout the entire time of communication with the series, I was haunted and thought that this was some kind of banter. A kind of cynical, philosophical, instructive banter. Well, that could be it. One thing is certain, the series is very memorable. I never thought that I would be sad to remember and enthusiastically analyze the epic about the “dark reapers”. Remember and with maniacal trepidation "digest" this dramatic-cynical-philosophical parable about life. A strange movie, like nothing more than special, and the soul penetrated and disappeared!
In general, in my opinion, this series is not only about death and life, but also indirectly, and perhaps clearly manifests the theme of loneliness. Reapers, they're together. They meet, communicate, work in the common field. But they're all terribly lonely. Take the Georgia family. Yeah, they're family, and family's not bad. A decent family. But every member of the family, whether it’s Georgia’s younger sister, her mother, or her father, is lonely. The loneliness in the film is everywhere. It's awfully bad to die alone. But living alone is no less painful.
The main characters are insanely good. The actors who played them are obviously very talented guys. And Ellen Moof?! Uh, Ellen Muth!!! She's not at all beautiful. Absolutely! But there is something about her appearance... In some incomprehensible, miraculous way she catches her eye, and fascinates. It's fascinating, literally. A real Reaper! She's amazing!!!
Don't miss this show. It's worth seeing, believe me.
To be honest, I don’t even remember coming across this series. In some of the top lists of series for the weekend / for women / which you need to watch for the rest of your life, it does not appear. I found it.
Found and... Lost, drowned in this creature. Atmosphere, presentation, music - everything is harmonious and captivates the soul. The first episode captured my heart.
The terrible realities of life are presented so easily, so calmly, that one involuntarily imbues one with this idea of serenity. Death will come for everyone, maybe at 18, maybe at 108, maybe it will be a sloppy charming guy, maybe a charming beauty, but they will take you by the hand and take you to another world, maybe another life.
To each hero can not remain indifferent and, I assure you, the opinion about the characters can change from the beginning of the series to its end. It is impossible not to love them.
As I said, the atmosphere of the show is amazing. After watching the series, despite the generally gloomy idea of the series, there is nothing oppressive or dreary in the soul, but quite the opposite - a pleasant warm aftertaste, as if after a cold rain you sat down by a warm fire and, froze, fell asleep. Reminiscent of the Russell T. Davis era in Doctor Who. Simple, without unnecessary pathos and special effects, but incredibly touching stories about the living and the dead.
And music. The music in the series is worthy of special admiration - it is selected flawlessly and perfectly complements the atmosphere created by the series.
In the end, I can say: watch clearly when the soul asks for something simple and easy, but not so empty as to stare at the screen. "Dead Like Me" will surely catch your soul.
After watching the series, there is a double feeling. On the one hand, there are a lot of illogical moments, primarily in the behavior of the characters, especially Ruba. Well, in fact, people die, become reapers of death, well, explain to them what is what, why it is necessary to do this and not otherwise, and what will happen if you do not do this. No way. Do it because I said so. As a result, during the first half of the series, half of the conflict is due to the fact that George does not behave as expected of her (that’s strange, ah!), and only when she screws up, she is explained why she should not have done so, making her guilty. Although she's only human. Yes, dead, but I don’t know if the filmmakers wanted to show it, or it happened, but it is clear that the characters of people after their death do not change much and they are not alien to anything human.
By the way, here is another illogicality: you live among people, somehow earn money, because you need somewhere to live, eat, dress in something. But don’t make social contacts! What if you are in a world of people? At one point, Rube doesn’t approve of George’s office work, but why? Roxy has a much more socially meaningful job, but she's not being touched. Yes, at the same time, robbing the dead and stealing are also viewed disapprovingly (by the way, I did not understand why Daisy’s suddenly awakened religiosity became the object of disapproval), so how to live in general for reapers to earn approval is not particularly clear.
Oh, well, you could be a starlet and have a boyfriend provide for you. I don’t know what Daisy is living on... It would be logical to assume that it is some men (who we do not see, but who are present in her life) who provide it. But no, when the first visible contender appears (albeit a goat, yes, but in this case it does not matter), it turns out that relations with the living Rube are not approved. Aw! They are dead for 20-60 years, and we remember that all human qualities remained with them, and therefore desires. At the same time, apparently, the reapers themselves in a single territory in the form of a city (and they cannot leave), not so much, so that relations with their kind are also extremely unlikely.
By the way, about leaving. Again, the same people with the same weaknesses and characters as in life. And no one has ever just taken and sent a mentor like that? Who can make someone else do anything? Well, I don't want to take souls, no one can force me. But no, they're all like obedient sheep just doing what they're told. No, obviously there would be consequences, so show it! It would be interesting at least!
It's about George trying to keep something from his past life and go look at the house. No, it’s funny to hear some reproaches from a person still wearing a wedding ring.
By the way, how did his daughter recognize him while still alive, if they see each other differently?
And a bunch of weird rules, like, if you got that sticker, don't you dare change it, it's your job. And they have some kind of "human" work, and they can't always be in some place. Yes, of course, this “human” work Rubom in every way depreciates, but again, how do they earn money? In general, it seems that Rube is just mocking them, specifically complicating their lives. No, of course, we are trying to show that Rube cares about them as a father, but this is some strange concern, reminiscent of the concern of Joy for her daughter, whom she does not understand.
It was a huge barrel of tar, but! At the same time, the main characters are very cute. I want to watch them and empathize with them. Charming and carefree Mason, charming Daisy, much deeper than it seems at first glance. The characters are well played. And even George in the second season stops pissing as in the first. They are the ones who keep watching the series. And in general, the series is quite easy and looks great.
In general, the idea is not bad, the actors are excellent (except for the main character, well, I do not like her with her always dissatisfied facial expression and replay). But the show could have gotten even better (and it’s going to last a couple more seasons) if it had more logic.
You can sleep! If you believe the positive reviews, the series is almost a revelation. Well, in general, yes, something there is associated with psychology, but behind the incredibly viscous and eerily monotonous plot it ceases to notice. Quite a good idea turned puff, which proves the fact that the series was curtailed after season 2. Looks like we're out of ideas. I gave up after my second attempt to watch Season 1 Episode 6. Boring, boring, boring! Half of the season has passed, and the development of the plot has not begun. In each episode, you have to listen to the story of an 18-year-old girl who got into a space toilet. No kidding, every episode. The sour faces of the heroes (we are incredibly nauseous and bored), a brick-like expression of the “culprit of celebration”, and you wonder what they are actually doing and why this story about the transfer of souls somewhere. No morals, no events. Series after series. At the same time, they all pretend to be busy, again from series to series. I think I’ve covered the entire series with this one paragraph. Well, try and master this "intricate" plot. Original
After the third episode, you realize that this is Grossman’s dress rehearsal for Desperate Housewives 39, a pleasant mixture of psychoanalytic mysticism, humor and sadness. Patinkin leads the whole film perfectly, as he does in ' Criminal Thinking' for amateurs '24 hours' Laura Harris' beautiful performance will be enjoyable, despite the fact that Episode 14 is just a failure, the film looks very good. Separately, it is necessary to note the work with the frame on the revelation of the whole film - you rarely find such an emphasis on the hands and face of the main actress - pay attention to how her hands are truthful and appropriate.

If you have lost loved ones, you are tormented by a sense of guilt and loss, then you will not find the best remedy for mental pain.
The main ideas of the series, which are literally hammered into each series:
1. Death is not the end of the existence of the soul, but only a transition to another state and another place.
2. Death is not a tragedy, but a part of our lives. It's a matter of life.
2. Death is inevitable. If someone has written a name, time and place on a sticker in heaven, then no one can prevent or delay its arrival. Who decides and why does not know.
You know, it helps in mental anguish, and what if I did this, and not otherwise, could it delay death?
Each series is a short wise parable with a share of good and sometimes black humor and advice on how to live, accept life and death.
The undead characters are very charming. Actors are soulful. By the end of the series, you begin to understand them, empathize with them, empathize with them, and even love them, and finally become attached to them and perceive them as close friends. Each of them has its own difficult fate.
The script, the staging - impeccable - a mixture of humor, absurdity, sincerity, hooliganism, sadness, wisdom. It's like life. After the series, you begin to love and appreciate life even more.
In addition, the series and saves from the sacred horror before death.
If after death you are led into the light of such funny cute people, maybe not so much and scary.
Thank you to the director, screenwriter, actors who created such a wonderful medicine for the soul. Special thanks for the soundtrack, which conveys to the audience a sense of nostalgia and sweet sadness about the life lived or not lived.
The only regret is that the show ended so quickly.
What is one of the most interesting questions today? Where are the assumptions more than the truth? Where does science get its way? It's a matter of human death. Brian Fuller brings to the screen one very healthy version of the posthumous existence, coming up with grim reapers, selecting great actors and creating beautiful storylines.
This version of life after death is amazing, because there is life there too! And you need to be a skilled writer and screenwriter to destroy our perception of death and turn everything in a completely different direction.
In every series, and especially a series of this genre, you need versatile characters. The Lass family is truly a family with a huge baggage of problems that no one wants to clean up, and if they do, then for some reason throwing everything in different corners. Cynthia Stevenson was so imbued with her character that I believed her 100%. Josh Lass, or rather the actress Ellen Moof, I really liked it. In many moments she overplayed, but for some reason it went in her favor and not a bit annoying. None of the actors and their characters were annoying (although in any series there would be one). And "Dead Like Me" would not have been so beloved without the brilliant actress Christine Wills, who played Dalores Herbig. It’s a character that put a constant smile on my face, especially in the first season. Crystal Dahl is a genuine laugh. It seems nothing special - a simple look and silence, but this is the reason for laughter. I wouldn’t be surprised if the actress couldn’t stop laughing during filming. And Jasmine Guy and her character, who liked to disappear for a couple of episodes, also fell in love with me. I really like this actress!
It was very clever of the writers to leave some of the storylines unexplained. In general, it seems to me, they did not know that the green light for the continuation will not be given, but who is Crystal and what the true past of Rupa is a mystery to this day. The audience has to figure it out – I think it’s fair, because we have the right to choose.
You can also feel the difference between the first and second seasons - the humor is a little hyped, Dalores has become much more serious, and the actress who plays Millie (not Josh) disappears somewhere without a trace.
I don’t want Dead Like Me to end. I want it to last forever, the good of ideas will be enough. Of course, there will be no third season, no one will take up the sequel (after 10 years), but still Dead Like Me ended amazingly. And this end is the end of a brilliant project and the whole story.
10 out of 10.
Surprisingly, back in 2007, when, as well as still, I was fond of literature (trying to write books), comics and drawing. And so in my head was born a wonderful and very relevant story that I wanted to embody in a series of comics. The story was about a guy who, by chance, became a Reaper. Death, if you will. He had to do the job of collecting lives for six hundred and sixty years. Then his duties will pass to another. It was before him, and it will be after. History began in the fifteenth century and ended in our time. The protagonist had to transcend his beliefs and take lives, no matter how much he liked it. He had some superpowers, met otherworldly beings, got into various moments of history or talked about them casually, so, say, according to the idea, in several issues were to appear plots from historical wars (First and Second World War). There were a lot of ideas, now I can’t remember everyone. But I can say that the most difficult decisions were made by the guy when he took the lives of relatives and friends. A good ending, as you can see, was not expected. There were even some sketches of the main character in the reaper's robe, soon converted into a hooded sweatshirt. But the idea became uninteresting to me, and I safely forgot about it.
It’s 2013, I’m learning about Dead Like Me and it’s something! Unlike my fantasy drama, here we see a very realistic approach. In fact, the irony is that in a series about death, we see a story about life! Incredibly cynical, sometimes funny, a sea of drama, a sea of philosophy, but still typical, real life! The main character is quite an ordinary teenager, just beginning to take steps into adulthood, who has not yet had time to experience bright moments, without special interests and plans for the future, with a completely gray and ordinary life, like most representatives of modern youth.
And then she dies. Her life ends unexpectedly and completely ridiculously. And so the cards have developed that she will become an “undead”, a reaper-gatherer of souls. And as if she did not want to return to his “past” life, what happened is not returned! George (the heroine’s name) is eccentric and wayward, she puts up with her fate for a very long time, now and then regretting what she can never do. Such simple, seemingly small things: hug your parents, talk to them, play with your sister, people think about this infrequently, and when they start it is too late. Maybe that's how we're made, we don't appreciate what we have. The series is very competently plays with the emotions of the viewer: making it sad, then smile. There are many events in which you empathize with the characters and involuntarily put yourself in their place. Many excellent ideas and teachings, superficial and not so.
The main idea, as it seemed to me, is to convey to the viewer the simplest truth - to have as much time as possible for the time that you are given in this world. It is necessary to experience as many emotions as possible, to commit as many actions as possible, while doing as little stupidity as possible! Respect the present hour and the present day. Respect every single minute, for it will die and never happen again. – Janusz Korczak “Tear up the roses before it is too late. In Latin, this phrase sounds like carpe diem. Literally translated, “Take a moment.” – Dead Poets Society These two quotes are able to accurately convey the essence of what the series is trying to convey. So do not waste time, every minute will end and not the fact that it will be followed by another!
Definitely worthy of attention series! One drawback - the series has a very ambiguous ending, which, in my opinion, is not the end at all. It could have been more dramatic.
