The story of a man in a country where the Ganges flows. Something has nailed me to the films of Amitabh Bachchan in the last 4 days. And the films of the young Amitabha. Over these days, I have reviewed so many of them, and it turned out that I have already written reviews for all of the revised ones here. There was one of those movies I didn’t write for. And as I can see, no one has written a review of this film, which is quite strange to me, because this is one of the best films of Amita-ji (and his fans are not very active). I am very happy to be writing first. So here we go.
Amitabh Bachchan, Zinat Aman and Amjad Khan in the Bollywood drama "Orphan" directed by Prakash Mehra, the author of such grandiose films as "Life is a gamble", "Lord of fate", "Protracted payback". Here again is the tandem of Amitabh Bachchan and Amjad Khan. They had a lot of joint films in which they were enemies, friends, and how here - father and son.
In the '70s and early '80s, Amitabh was a force that no one could surpass or break (although he still is, but it was especially strong back then). In 1981, he had 3 blockbusters "Strong Friendship" (just paired with Amjad Khan), "Kaliyah", and "Orphant". Again in collaboration with Prakash Mehra.
This is the story of an orphan named Hira, who immediately after birth was given to a drunken vagrant, and who grew up in a slum, experienced many humiliation and alienation of people in life, but retained a good heart and a pure soul. The film is similar to films made before, but what makes it special is of course Amitabh, dialogue and some excellent scenes.
The film begins brightly, the game Amitabha is excellent, (and it can not be otherwise), and how his relationship with his stepfather is shown, it is simply impossible to describe, there are several situations of recklessness, and the character of Hira, the character of a very strong and persistent person. The hero of this film will follow a winding road to the final finding of himself and his real Father. Alienation will be destroyed by solidarity. The poor and the oppressed will have their protector. The scene of the first meeting Amitabha and Zinat, as well as the scene of the explanation with his father (when he has already found out who his real father is) turn everything inside. Amitabh is unmatched in them. What eyes, how much real bitterness, pain and incessant melancholy that it is impossible to look without tears these moments. Again, I wondered how it was possible to play such heartbreaking moments so believably without actually experiencing them. Only true genius can do that.
“Kahe Paise Pe” is a very strong song, and I get goosebumps every time I listen to it (watching this movie). And not just run, but arrange real races, with obstacles. The song "Mere Angne mein" and the climax are excellent.
The film played many beautiful actors of those years, but Amitabh surpasses them all ten times, with its unique charm, its acting power, its charisma and incredible talent. Just bravo!!!
Partner Amitabha in this film was the brilliant Zinat Aman, and no matter what anyone says about their pair (that Amitabhu except Rekha no one in the pair fits, and all this, but it is not), for me Zinat the best partner for him. With her potential, with her extraordinary beauty, with her magnificent figure and unsurpassed talent.
And as always in those years, Amitabh looks amazing: trousers tighten his hips and show in all the splendor of his long legs, the jacket is unbuttoned to the waist (and the shirt too), opening his chest with dark black hair and showing his torso in all its glory, and he is, as always, damn beautiful in this form. Just macho. I always envy his on-screen partners at times like this. Being near such a man for a long time, this is true pleasure and incomparable pleasure.
Amjad Khan is also great in the positive role of a confused person. His gaze at the meeting with Hira, his awkward movements, his desire to embrace him and call him a son, but the inability to do so because of the prejudices of society and the fear of losing his dignity and honor in the eyes of this society is truly excellent.
The film will certainly appeal to all fans of Amitabh Bachchan, and even non-fans will also like it. Because the story is very strong, relevant for our time and brilliantly executed by the wonderful actors of the past.
