During viewing, the question repeatedly arose - to what genre should this film be attributed? Horror - so other than mentioning vampires there's nothing creepy. Thriller - too uneven was the narrative to become a real thriller. The detective is more like the truth. So this is a real arthouse - that's the solution to why this film mixed so many different genres, and even showing the underside of the society of the so-called burners of life, who call themselves nothing but a beaumonde.
The main character performed by Guillaume Canet is just one of these burners of life. He has neither a home nor a job, he sleeps during the day in a sports club, and at night he tries to break into another private party - sometimes he succeeds - not without the help of his countless acquaintances - sometimes he does not and he makes enemies. One day, during one of these parties, he was offered a deal - it was necessary to immediately refuse it, but the amount was too large for Antoine, who was so mired in debt, to refuse it so easily - and fell into a story that he would never have known about.
Moreover, he was not alone, but also attracted his friend Etienne - Gerard Lanven - who earns a living casting for a porn studio. And these two will show the audience what is going on behind the usually closed doors of elite nightclubs - I must say, the impression was not too pleasant.
In this film there is not a single bright image, everything is saturated with dirt - but this is what attracts when watching. In search of the elusive Jordan, the King of the Night, it’s not hard to lose not only a tongue that talks too much – but life itself. Which is worth absolutely nothing in this world to its own, even less than nothing. True, to the credit of the filmmakers, there is not so much blood in it, they do not revel in the contemplation of deaths - and the deaths themselves are not as much as it might seem to look at the genres mentioned in the description.
Is it worth it or not to watch this movie? Fans of Kane, Lanvena and Asia Argento, whose attractive figure was shown in a variety of angles, probably worth it. As well as fans of non-standard cinema. Those who expect a lot of blood - still there are vampires - you can walk past with a calm soul.
