BMW rental: Part 8 - "Pendulum" As producers, Tony and Ridley Scott were actively looking for new talent. So, having decided to arrange a mini-experiment with the then unknown Joe Carnahan, they were so impressed with his work that they actively promoted it with further projects. It is not surprising that under the patronage of such famous and powerful film giants, he managed to make a decent number of high-profile works. So what's wrong with this job? It's all about the hurricane. Joe literally from the very first seconds introduces into his work an incredibly spectacular chase, shootout and the maximum amount of possible destruction. That acts like a hammer hit on the head early in the morning.
In some places, of course, a certain imitation of Tony Scott's style is obvious. But the same style can also be associated with Carnahan himself, who is also passionate about a rather realistic, but cool spectacle. Carnahan in this work focused not only on visual entertainment and gloss of the picture, but also on a sufficiently deep atmospheric content. What's holding him. It is this fact that allows you not only to savor the luxurious chases and shootouts of this short film, but also completely immerse yourself in what is happening on the screen from head to toe.
The plot is quite simple and develops according to the pattern of the entire cycle "BMW rental". A new client, another chase, someone trying to kill him again and so on. It seems like nothing interesting. But that wasn't it. The scriptwriters of the tape in the person of Joe Carnahan and David Fincher wove one intriguing detail into the plot, which was tied around the mysterious case of the new client of the hero. Thus, the plot is instantly transformed and becomes a source of a lot of questions. What's in the suitcase? Why are these people stalking the main character's client and trying to kill him? Who are they, anyway?
Answers are revealed only in the last minutes of the project. The rest of the time, a kind of uncertainty only intrigues and sharpens perception from a seemingly simple story to the limit.
Clive Owen once again played his character in all its glory. I can’t help but be amazed at how expressive his appearance is. That sometimes one expression on his face says more than all the words he said in the whole movie. Bravo. No less brilliantly played and Don Cheadle, who can be considered one of the most talented black actors in the world. The role is played on emotions, very characteristic and strong. It was nice to see Ray Liotta and Robert Patrick in the film. There were few of them here, but this does not affect the quality of their game. And more than once lit up this season BMW Z4 appears here in all its glory and splendor.
The music of the composer of the film Clint Mansell turned out to be simply magnificent. Given the standard creativity of Clint, which focuses on author and serious tapes, I can not get used to the sound that he will come to his commercial works. Including this one. The music turned out to be spectacular, tense, dynamic and literally overflowing with powerful dynamics. That’s just the choice of musical instruments and the sound in general brings an absolute new format to the music for action. Which is a pleasure.
10 out of 10
Insanely spectacular, dynamic, intense, intriguing and spectacularly shot short action movie. One of the best works in the BMW Rent cycle and its perfect completion. I liked it. I definitely recommend it.
