Frankenstein and everything Night, lightning, a gloomy stone laboratory, the bright glow of electrified lamp emitters, water vessels with human flesh, a creature bandaged from head to toe, hysterical cries of "It's Alive! Alive!" Yes, we're back at Dr. Frankenstein's castle. But the Monster itself has already been created, and therefore on the operating table there is a creature that should replace him with a friend or even a bride. As you can see, the beginning of the film takes us directly to the end of the 1935 film The Bride of Frankenstein.
Some alternative continuation of the story of Frankenstein, proposed by director Frank Roddam and screenwriter Lloyd Fonviell (one of the writers of the Hollywood remake of The Mummy in 1999), shot surprisingly adequately. After the tragedy that happened in the castle, Frankenstein's monster still finds a friend with a similar fate in the face of a circus dwarf. Well, then two friends-freaks are waiting for bright adventures on the way to Budapest, because of which the film can be attributed almost to the category of “family fantasy”. At the same time, we are shown the life of Eve, the failed bride of a monster, who soon learns literacy, high manners, horse riding, and then, like any woman created by God, seeks to know love. With the bride’s storyline, the film adds a “melodrama” to its list. There is absolutely nothing to say about acting, since everyone, from Frankenstein to the director of the circus, played the same average. In addition, there are many absurdities in the film, for example, the doctor who created the monster and the bride named Charles, and later the dwarf will call his great friend Victor. And unlike many other adaptations of the famous story, the kind “Bride” of course will end in a happy ending.
As a result, "The Bride" - is another muzzle of the story written by Mary Shelley, filmed by Universal Studio in the 1930s, but this film is distinguished by a high-quality transfer of the spirit of the XIX century, a noticeable soundtrack and a pronounced fantasy-fairytale atmosphere, everything else in the film looks outdated for at least 10 years. Do not even hope to find “horrors” here, which make up this genre there is simply no. But if you need a classic good costumed fairy tale with the victory of good over evil, then the film will definitely suit you.
