The miracle of discovery And do you remember that inside each of us lies amazing curiosity, childish, that curiosity, which is a catalyst for knowing the world through the prism of our own sensations and emotions?
Werner Herzog in this film acts as a guide who, in fact, connects the world of your sensations and the feelings of those people who succumbed to the temptation to satisfy their interest at the very end of the world – the interest of research.
Herzog himself openly states at the very beginning that this movie is not another “penguin film”, but this is not a cause for concern. Here it is not in the propitiation of the diversity of fauna or in the drama about the growing up of a polar bear, here it is in the delight that becomes covered literally after the first speech of one of the scientists. The film tells us about what happens in a place where there is no night for six months, about how people who went on an expedition, being in our world scientists, bus drivers, musicians, in general, the most diverse, do the work necessary for the expedition, but they have one thing in common: learning a distant and wonderful world hidden by snow and cold, get to know themselves and share their discoveries.
For example, biologists outside the scientific context say that the cries of seals are similar to the sounds of the early Pink Floyd, and fall enchanted on the firmament, putting their ears to the ground and listening to them, while other researchers celebrate the holidays by playing guitars and, however, happy with life. And such simple, sometimes strange things make people happy, and the shine in their eyes confirms the truthfulness of their words and sincerity of feelings.
A separate word deserves shooting: is it not surprising that we have the opportunity to look at the underwater part of the iceberg, resembling, according to diving in the water, the cathedral from the inside and touch, at least a little, the bizarre world of flora and fauna, which has if not luminescent property, then other, no less amazing adaptive abilities?
After viewing, there is a very pleasant aftertaste, pushing to think about moral values, and, perhaps, prompting a new look at the world through the eyes of a five-year-old child, who has not yet been spoiled and nourishes the joy of suddenly acquired knowledge about the world that surrounds him, and at the same time makes it possible to feel like a grain of sand in the universe, a small but, nevertheless, important grain of sand.
