The Trivial World of Belle In 1991, the Disney studio gave us the cartoon Beauty and the Beast, which became not just an ordinary, good Disney cartoon, but a real masterpiece from the world of animation. In the cartoon there was a very beautiful animation with beautiful spans of the camera during the ball Belle and the Beast, which created a sense of scale of what is happening; very memorable characters: a real beauty Belle in a yellow dress, evil on the outside, but kind inside the Beast / former Prince, charming and narcissistic villain Gaston, funny Lumiere and Congsworth, etc.; an exciting plot that was both cheerful and creepy when needed. It is not surprising that at one time the cartoon collected a huge box office, various awards, but most importantly - it became a world, immortal classic.
It is not surprising that Disney after the success of the original, the thirst for profit caught fire and the cartoon in 1997 got a sequel - "Miracle Christmas", which, however, was not bad. The creators were able, competently, to print his story in the general history of the original. It would seem that you earned once and that’s enough! Oh, no. One sequel, Disney seemed not enough and in 1998 they released another - "Beauty and the Beast 3: The Magical World of Belle".
You know, I understand that art is created first for the sake of making money. But there has to be a limit. It is one thing to make a beautiful cartoon for the sake of earning money, another thing to rivet a bunch of sequels to it for the sake of earning money. It would seem that you can do the triquel “Beauty and the Beast”? The creators decided not to steam and so the actions of the third part unfold again while the Prince was the Beast, and Belle was trying to settle him down. And someone will say, it was already in the second part! Yes, that’s why the third novelty is added – there is no plot. The film is divided into 4 stories that are not related to each other.
We are told about how Belle and the Beast quarreled over the manners of the latter and how all the inhabitants of the castle tried to measure them. About how Fifi's broom (or what kind of object?) jealous Lumiere of Belle, on their anniversary day. About how the inhabitants of the castle try to rid Miss Pott of the winter morony. And how the Beast learned to love birds.
I don’t see any point in disassembling these 4 stories separately, since they are all the same in quality. Unless it is worth noting that the love story of Fifi and Lumiere is really cute! What is surprising is that the animation here is not bad and does not even look cheap, as in other Disney sequels. I'm the only one who can't figure out why Belle got tanned. I mean, she's got dark skin, why? Is there a solarium in the castle of the Beast?
About the storytelling. I can’t say that they are bad in concept, except that it is embarrassing that the stories seem different, but everywhere the same plot – Belle tries to wean the Beast to be a monster, he learns, but in the next novel he is again a monster. Another problem is that you get tired of the movie. All these stories do not have a single liner, they just go and you quickly get tired of it all and this despite the fact that the cartoon even goes an hour and a half, like the original! (So many places).
Conclusion. Despite my good words at the end, I have no sympathy for this cartoon. It seems to me an obvious observation that this sequel was a very strained attempt by Disney to cash in on the fame of the original cartoon and it simply does not belong.
However, I cannot say that this is some kind of nightmare. All the stories shown look superfluous, but cute. The animation is also exciting. Besides, knowing that we are waiting for a time-lapse remake with a poorly singing Emma Watson and a glamorous Beast, then we should pay tribute to the creators of the sequel that they have at least something of their own.
