I'm not a coward, but I'm afraid... In love stories, as a rule, you are afraid for your loved one, and I trembled for my skin.
Good French cinema, remembered primarily by the star duo Deneuve-Rochefort, witty dialogues, as well as the wonderful music of the genius Vladimir Cosmos (later used by him in Chameleon). There are comedic elements here, but they’re certainly not as funny as the other Eve Robert films. Before us is the story of a hereditary coward, told by him in the first person, with a fair share of barbs and self-irony. In general, this subject reminded me of Richard's character from the comedy "I'm shy, but I'm healed." But at least he tried to overcome his own weakness. Rochefort’s hero doesn’t do anything about it, even if he’s inspired by the woman he loves, so as a man, he’s not pretty. Another thing is that Jean Rochefort’s personal charm is so great that this alone makes him attractive in the eyes of the viewer. And where else will you see Rochefort in the slack and on the Harley? I remember other French actors - Michelle Bon, Michel Omont, Dominique Lavananne, although they did not play a special role.
She looked at me like Humphrey Bogart looked at Lauren Bacall.
But the main decoration of the film, of course, was the magnificent Catherine Deneuve. How good she is here! I especially liked the song "Lady from Amsterdam". How romantic their scenes with Rochefort in Holland are. Truffaut once said, Katrina Deneuve is so beautiful in her own right that the film she plays shouldn’t even tell a story. I am sure that the audience will be happy to see Catherine’s face.” And that's the truth. Looking at its beauty, you get real pleasure. Strangely, unlike the other actors in the film, she never received a Cesar nomination. But for the best male role was nominated Rochefort, who played three roles at once. And for whom, this comedy was one of eight collaborations with director Yves Robert. P.S. It is interesting that the pharmacy from this film appeared soon in Delon’s film For the Skin of a Policeman. But that’s another story...
Do you often make love?
- Nope. Love for the first time.
