Don't read newspapers in the family circle! Giovanni Machiavelli (Alberto Sordi) has a good job, prosperity, a beloved wife and a smart son. One day Giovanni reads to his wife Rafaella (Monica Vitti) an article about a murder out of jealousy. It seems to him funny, because it is much easier to discuss all the problems in the family circle, to be honest and open in relationships! Rafaella agrees with him completely, and here she talks about her love for a man with whom she meets every Wednesday at a sacred music concert.
Alberto Sordi is a great actor and so a director. With the charming Monica Vitti they play a wonderful duet, but too long and very straightforward. Some scenes (the concert in the church) seem to be watched several times in a row. At some point, you start to catch yourself looking not at the screen, but at the clock: “How will it end?” And that, as you can see, is a minus!
But you can, without really thinking about the content, just admire the play of the stars of Italian cinema. After all, this is the first film where they starred together in the lead roles of Alberto Sordi and Monica Vitti.
