In addition to being a versatile talented person who has expressed himself in music and film, Hilary Duff is also known for several high-profile scandals, which are widely discussed in the press. So the guy Duff after two years of relationship went to another scandalist – Lindsay Lohan. After that, the girls began an open confrontation and they reconciled only four years later, when Lohan received an official invitation to the premiere of the new album by Hilary Duff. But the echoes of their quarrel appeared later. So in 2007, with the participation of Lohan in the title role, one of her most famous films was released - "Cool Georgia" from director Harry Marshall, who shot such famous films as "Overboard" (1987), "On the Beach" (1988) and "Pretty Woman" (1990). In “Cool Georgia” was told about a young girl with a character who literally harasses his intolerant behavior and rudeness mother and grandmother. And the next year after the premiere of “Cool Georgia” on the screens came the film “Greta” with Hilary Duff in the title role.
And that’s what the film “Greta” on the script of debutant Michael Gilvari from debutant-director Nancy Bardavil, who previously worked as a video maker and is known for collaboration with “Métley Crèe” and “Bon Jovi”. In the center of the plot of "Greta" is a sixteen-year-old rebel (as you understand her and plays Hilary Duff), which the mother, engaged in saving her ninth marriage, exiles in New Jersey to her grandparents. Greta is going to make a splash, because she is a bright and attractive girl. But behind the appearance hides a rather fussy person who begins to harass grandparents with their words and deeds. In addition, Greta keeps a special diary in which she writes down what she needs to do before the eighteenth birthday, and also describes various options for suicide - the girl is prone to suicide, as her father once did, who she hardly remembers. But the time spent in New Jersey, as well as meeting a guy named Julie (Ivan Ross) make Greta reconsider their views, behavior and attitude towards others.
It was noted by many that the plots of “Cool Georgia” and “Greta” are similar in many ways, but the fact is that the production of “Greta” was completed in 2007, that is, in the year of the premiere of “Cool Georgia”, but lay on the shelf for two years and only then went into limited release. And if "Greta" was released when it was created, it is still unknown who would have been on the screen first - a tape with Hilary Duff or a picture with Lindsay Lohan. And so "Greta" received its wave of criticism for conditional plagiarism. But here’s what Duff and Lohan have in common: It was at this point in their film careers that they began to take a back seat. In the same 2007 year, Lohan starred in the thriller I Know Who Killed Me, which “earned” as many as seven anti-awards “Golden Raspberry”. And Duff ceased to be quoted by major film studios after the failure of the film “Real Girls” (2006). And then Hilary went on a free voyage through the expanses of independent cinema. So she was on a contract with a little-known studio Whitewater Films and starred in the image of the rebel Greta.
The movie is not bad, by the way. And Duff isn't as annoying on screen as she's been in her other work. Sometimes, of course, she is engaged in self-admiration, but still puts herself in her place and tries to convey the image of a girl who expresses herself from the point of view of youthful maximalism, thereby attracting special attention to her person. She loves acting from the side of shocking, not understanding what difficulties she brings to the people around her who really love her. I really liked Michael Murphy, who played Greta’s grandfather. This man almost always remained unperturbed and at the same time kept a cool head, not allowing quarrels granddaughter and grandmother to grow to the level of disaster. And pleasantly surprised by the sentimental role of actor Ivan Ross, who had previously convincingly played a juvenile scumbag in the crime drama A Merry Life in Cracktown (2008). And Ellen Burstyn, who played Greta’s grandmother, was always very bright and strong, showing her granddaughter that she too has a character and, perhaps, that this granddaughter went into her, but you need to find a common language, even if you have to sacrifice your principles for this.
As already mentioned, Greta is a very good film that contains its philosophical features and has a message to the younger generation who have not yet adapted to see what their words or actions can lead to. Hilary Duff did not put pressure on the fact that she considers herself a superstar and competently, and most importantly, that expressively embodies the image of a young rebel. And at the same time, other actors play lively and boldly, which makes from the point of viewer’s perception make sure of the realism of what is happening. At least a one-time view of "Gret" deserves.
I watched this movie because of Hilary Duff. Although I love melodramas, this picture remained neutral, and there are several reasons for this. Firstly, a good idea about the crisis of adolescence is planned well, only embodied in my opinion somewhat unsuccessfully – it is too far-fetched, and all manifestations of this crisis are in the palm of your hand (just a textbook of some kind) – everything is different in life. I liked the idea of Greta’s manic suicide. She even keeps a special diary in which she notes all possible ways.
Hilary Duff looks older than her character, and to get used to her image to the end failed. Ivan Ross, in my opinion, did not look like Julie, the first real feeling of our heroine. The love between them was not visible on the screen. And it's not that he's African-American and she's white (don't think I'm not racist). Greta and Julie were simply perceived as friends, but there was no sparkle between them. In this regard, the two of them looked kind of weird.
In my opinion, the picture can be shown to schoolchildren in the corresponding period of adolescence, so that this crisis proceeds much easier for them. The fact that the film is designed for this age audience is confirmed by numerous inserts and sketches from Greta’s diary in the course of the narrative. I liked the musical accompaniment of the picture a good selection of soundtracks.
Here are some interesting statistics on suicide. Only one in ten of them is successful. Moreover, women make attempts 5 times more often than men, but 3 times less bring them to the end (lethal outcome). Hence the conclusion: if men commit suicide for the sake of death, then for women suicide is only an attempt to attract attention, a desire to radically change their lives. After all, only women before death can call their friends and report it, which means that subconsciously count on salvation.

Hmm. I think this is one of the first male reviews for this film. And maybe someone will be more interested to look at this point of view about this movie.
I can take this film to the category of relaxing, although there are moments in the film in which the viewer should feel and bite the nails, but for me this is not particularly perceived. According to the appearance of the main character, it is clear that there is nothing to worry about and everything will be fine, this is predicted at the beginning of the film.
As a person, Greta is very interesting, but she is just curious to watch. She's so crazy and eccentric, I just like it. Her unconventional behavior simply catches the eye and does not let him go until the end of the film.
I’m not a fan of melodramas, but I liked the movie! I will not go into the plot twists, in the rest of which it is not. When Greta's mother comes to pick her up, she seems so strange trying to force her home, even though she just didn't come to see her before. Where does such a leap come from a careless attitude to an incredible attachment? I don't understand.
And I began to watch the film for several reasons: well-chosen music, nice shooting, and Hilary Duff is just a cute thing in this picture.
Of course, many people can dispute my opinion by saying this is a masterpiece. But that's not true.
Quite tolerable, interesting, relaxing cinema, leaving behind a pleasant mood.
So, to put a high rating is very stupid, but still the film is good.
So ...
I don’t see anything in this movie as amazing as my friends did. Yeah, it's a normal movie, it's nothing like that. But somehow I didn't like it very much.
Sixteen-year-old Greta is not happy with her life, she wants to end it, for this she writes a list in which all methods of suicide are written. She's telling everyone about this list, probably to upset them. She has a bad relationship with her parents, with her grandparents. But she meets a guy who changes her completely.
Hilary Duff played violent teenager Greta. She didn't do that very well. I didn't make it to the level. Although it is normal in principle.
I really liked the scenery. Beautiful.
Strangely enough, that’s all I can say about this movie. It just doesn't carry anything important.
I found out about this painting by accident. I’ve seen it on the internet and on social media, but I’ve avoided watching it all the time. I thought this picture would be very similar to The Last Song, I didn’t want to spoil the experience. But interest still won in me. Today I decided to watch it...
The film was directed by Nancy Bardavil. It's his only movie job. Well, I have to admit, very lucky. Easy, interesting, but, for me, a one-time movie. I was interested in watching what was happening on the screen, but I knew the end of the film beforehand – it was not difficult to guess. But, in general, it turned out to be a good picture that you can see one evening and enjoy watching and just relax.
The problem of fathers and children... Turgenev wrote about it, I often discuss it now. She always was, is and always will be. And it's no secret. I think every one of us has faced a similar situation at least once. Do children not understand their parents or, conversely, the parents of their children? Unanswered question. A question that cannot be answered. In this situation, the only solution is a compromise. But is everyone ready, faced with such a situation, to agree to it?
That, in my opinion, is what is told in the film. Greta is a difficult teenager. Mom sends her to her grandparents for the summer so she can fix her marriage. Third one. Greta's father died long ago. He killed himself. Greta wants to kill herself, too. But before that, she made a list of what to do before she dies, and the most convenient ways to commit suicide. But it’s just a pretense...
Have you ever wondered how often we have to pretend? How often do we wear a mask to hide our true self? And more importantly, for what? I recently asked myself this question. And I came to the conclusion that sometimes I allow myself to put on a mask and hide my true feelings, hide myself. Because it's more convenient. Not everyone wants to open up and read like an open book. But does it always help?
Turning to the cast, I want to say that he was picked up well. Undoubtedly, the role of Greta is one of the best roles of Hilary Duff. In this picture, it almost always looked organic. I wanted to believe her. Sometimes, however, her pretense made me distrust. But it's only a couple of times. Ivan Ross played the role of Julie. Ivan became a kind of decoration of the film. At least for me. His character seemed to me so kind and warm that it was pleasant to look at him. He was encouraging. And Ivan's performance was amazing. Michael Murphy did a great job playing Greta's grandfather. He was so kind and caring. Ellen Burstyn shone as a grandmother. Ellen did a great job in her role. I believed her.
I can’t control everything that happens in your life. (c)
The composer of this picture was John I. Nordstrom. I have never seen his work before. As for this... The music John picked up was not bad. Nothing brilliant I heard, but, nevertheless, the soundtrack suited the picture. Light and unpretentious music only decorated the picture. Thank you.
"Greta" - an interesting and kind tape. A movie you can watch one night just to relax. So I would advise you to watch it. You should like him. Enjoy your visit!
Honestly, when I sat down to watch the movie, I thought there was going to be something like a "resort novel" or "how I met him." Oh, I was wrong! From the very first minute I knew that watching would not be easy.
A girl who decides to commit suicide and chooses ways to do so. Immediately come to mind thoughts like “another film about unrequited love”, but everything is much more complicated and confusing. Throughout the film, the true reason for this behavior is revealed.
Greta's father shot himself in front of a little girl, which affected the formation of the child's psyche. The desire to kill herself becomes obsessive for Greta, she does not see life after the age of 18. There is also the fault of a mother who is more interested in her personal life than her daughter’s. All her problem solving ends with the “link” of an annoying daughter to her grandparents and a correctional camp.
The turning point is Greta's meeting with Julie. He helped to see the meaning of life, to learn to think not only about yourself, but also about loved ones who love and appreciate you in spite of everything. It’s not just teenage love, it’s friendship and a sincere desire to help. I was struck by Julie’s words, “You knew I was going to save you, so you jumped,” as Greta tried to drown herself. Here the main character understands that her desire to commit suicide is selfish.
I cried when Greta's grandmother had a heart attack. How often we do things without thinking about the consequences, experiences and feelings of our loved ones, think only about ourselves.
This film also made me think about how much human attention we all need. But this was the main reason for such a strange desire Greta, because the only outlet for her was a diary. So let’s just pay attention to our loved ones, it’s not at all difficult to tell them words of love or just listen to their problems.
