Fatal contact. In my opinion, this is probably the best Jackie Woo movie to star in, at least for now. I first saw this martial artist in 'Stars of Destiny' 2005, where he played a supporting role as a killer. I was impressed with his skills and immediately remembered. I’ve seen a lot of movies with him, but this is probably the best I’ve seen. I repeat, it is one of those where Wu plays the main role.
What is unusual is that the picture is not a simple superficial action movie without much meaning and plot. The creators worked on the story and on the characters. Wu's character is simple, very kind-hearted, harmless, naive and gentle young guy who doesn't know what it means to be angry at all. He needs money and masters martial arts. Next to him is a girl who, on the contrary, is not as simple as it may seem. She just like he needs money and, despite her friendship, begins to manipulate a trusting guy to enrich himself, thanks to his fighting skills, and he, due to the peculiarities of his character, does not suspect anything bad. This is where all this whirlwind with underground fights without rules and sweepstakes begins. Rivals Wu each time stronger and more enduring, the stakes are higher, the pockets are heavier. The girl in the character Jackie becomes essentially his manager or agent, performing characteristic functions, and in the meantime she still manages to teach her friend how to live. But you can't say she's doing all this for herself. The life of her boyfriend and girlfriend is also getting better. The character of Wu finds a good friend, a bully who, by the way, also knows kung fu and even teaches the main character something. It also has the functions of the main hochmach of the picture, so that the action movie and drama are seasoned here with light notes of comedy, although this element is relatively small.
But still, the main element of the action movie, namely action, is perfectly staged here for the most part. Jackie was younger in those years, but most importantly, he had not suffered professional injuries like in recent years, so watching him fight is a pleasure. If the cables were used, then at a minimum. At first, the fights were very short, but this was due to the weakness of the opponents. It just got better. The installation and camera work also made an impression, again. not everywhere, but for the most part. Wu’s character is so kind that he beats his rivals for good, his friend points out directly and says that he needs to add a little anger in order to defeat stronger opponents. Good advice and the main character uses it, from which the fights played with new colors.
I enjoyed the film and its ending. I didn't expect it to end so melodramatically. Although the final scene delivers and can even be considered a kind of happy ending. Also in the tape is not the usual for hand-to-hand action final fight, and I was waiting for him, and he would not hurt. Once again look at the fighting skills of Wu Jing, I always do not mind.
