Crosses, science and vampires The British can shoot TV series, they can. And, if the American like to surprise the viewer with visual effects and unusual stylistic solutions, the British are betting on the plot and plot. "Ultraviolet" with great difficulty can be called a feast for the eyes, but fantastic assumptions and mythological concept do not allow you to throw it into the trash of uninteresting crafts.
Now it is difficult to surprise the viewer with the mixture of technology and urban legends; vampires have lost the charm of night creatures and gleaming in the sun, confess their love, schoolgirls and waitresses. So the series definitely will not turn the mind of the viewer, and watch it out of nostalgia for those old bloodsuckers of the nineties.
In addition, the series may seem too naive. Vampires literally explode from the sun, fear the Bible and hiss at priests. But the creators of the series did not exaggerate. These same vampires travel in high-tech coffins (bulletproof, timed and sealed until sunrise), conduct active research in the field of atomic physics, genetic engineering and artificial insemination. They are very concerned about the possibility of nuclear collapse and environmental disasters. The immortals are much more concerned with the preservation of the planet.
But the government’s secret undead department is convinced that these are all reservations, and in fact vampires are concerned about possible human mutations that will make them unfit for nutrition. Therefore, people do their best to interfere with vampires, and if possible, physically eliminate them. But the days of stakes and garlic are long gone and in the service of the government, in addition to the priest, is a doctor, investigator and professional military. Do not expect questions about the faith and immortality of the human soul, in almost every series there is either an economic crime or an illegal medical research, which is suppressed by trivial methods. The main disadvantage is the absence of direct collisions, the department fights disembodied ghosts and the viewer remembers vampires only thanks to dialogue.
The Ultraviolet intrigue is as simple as a ruler, with both sides having their own view of the conflict between the government and the vampires. The viewer himself will be on whose side he is and learn the truth in the latest series, before that you will have to collect a picture of omissions, reservations and facts. No one will explain anything, the director believes that his audience can independently extract the necessary keys.
Ultraviolet is not a revolutionary series, too naive in modern times, but at the same time not without new ideas, with an emphasis on a technological solution and a minimum of mystical component. Perfect if you feel nostalgic for the cinematic atmosphere of the nineties. Fans of the genre are recommended, and the rest without damage can pass by.
