A decent adaptation of the game to Arcane In advance, I warn the onlookers about spoilers in the review, I will walk through both the film and the anime.
In general, I am a small fan of game adaptations for movies or even TV series. Like not a fan of adapting anything to a movie, comic or oriental work, but this movie I did not like, I consider it an exemplary example for other authors.
What is a good adaptation? Well, you need to take the plot of the original, add something of your own, and take nouneim to the film crew. At least this is how the creators of the Silent Hills dilogy, for example, apparently reasoned, but Asians are not Gaizins, they approached the creation of such a project much more responsibly.
The first thing to note is the story. Chronologically, the "First Strike" prequel to Vesperia. That is, there is a killing of two birds with one stone: since the story is different, then it will not work to screw up with the reworking of the original plot, and fans and just players will get a completely new “fairy tale”.
The creators introduce new characters and alternate from old ones. The captain of the squad, the twins, the main antagonist are wonderful heroes worthy of appearing in the game, at least as dlc content. But at the same time, the Japanese reveal from new sides and already familiar heroes. We find out why Yuri left the knights and Flynn stayed. We learn about the problems with his father from the latter and, of course, the dog Repid gets a lot of attention, which she so lacks in the game.
Fan service breakout. It has everything: familiar locations, monsters, heroes from the game appearing for five minutes, phrases-prophecies, etc. A look for a familiar franchise player.
It's also a good movie. The plot, of course, stars from the sky are missing, but it works, the staging of battles is fascinating, and the turn in the end, though predictable, is justified and not perceived as bayonets. Such an ominous omen and a Chekhov rifle that will shoot only in the game.
In the end, I will say that I am immensely sorry that in the CIS there is such little interest in the franchise, even from a few fans of the genre. And they undeservedly spoiled the film's assessment. As for me, I absolutely recommend watching the fans of the original, and those who are not familiar with Tales of Vesperia, I advise you to go through this wonderful game, especially after the release of the excellent port on PC.
