To the future of the New Batman! “Batman of the Future” is a very original animated series, which adequately complements the continuation of the animated series “Batman Adventures and New Batman Adventures”. And it is made in the best traditions of the animated series of the 90s and it cannot but rejoice!
Intrigue, fights, drama, romance and humor – on the same level, it looks just as exciting and spectacular! However, some series are ill-conceived, ridiculous and unsuccessful. .
Gotham City has become a futuristic metropolis! Gotham has changed a lot over the past 50 years and that impresses me. It perfectly feels the atmosphere of the world of the future, but the gloom remains at the same level and this is great!
Terry McGuinness does a great job playing Batman and the costume suits him very well! Terry is a brave hero who avenges the death of his father and purposefully goes to the goal: to stop the villains. At the same time, he is a little frivolous, stupid and not serious - and this only adds to the character's comicality.
Perfectly complements the plot of the novel by Terry and Dana and it is worth noting, without romance, no animated series about Batman is not easy. And Maxie reminds me very much of Ketty from the feature film “Batwoman Mystery”: she is also African-American, has a short haircut and the figure is the same, only her hair is pink instead of black – and this is a very funny fact: perhaps she served as a prototype for Katie!
As for the villains, the choice of villains is not bad and peculiar, but something is missing in them. I understand that they were present in the canonical comic, but unfortunately, they lack the zest and pepper that was in the former villains; and therefore, unlike them, these villains are not particularly impressive and almost difficult to remember: who is who and what he is known for. If there were more series about the original villains, as a continuation of their family: what would show the heirs of Penguin, Riddler, Two-Face, Hatter, Ivy, Mr. Freeze, Scarecrow and others – would be cool! And somehow it is unclear: about Bane, Croc, Catwoman and Joker (where else without him) showed the continuation, and about the rest, alas, did not think through the plot and forgot... And if we paid attention to the continuation of the kind of secondary characters: Rupert Thorne, Roxy Rocket and Hugo Strange, it would be incomparably simple. I’m going to make a big difference!
And another downside is that Bruce Wayne here looked kind of nasty and repulsive. Of course, given his age, he couldn’t have been as cute as he was when he was young, but... we could have painted him in a nicer way. I don't know what was repulsive about him, but there was something. And why does Bruce have reddish-yellow eyes here? Is he a drug addict, or does he sleep poorly, or does he have vision problems? That was a mystery... If he had normal blue eyes, it would be better. This looks like disrespect to Bruce Wayne!
If we were to develop the stories of the heirs of former villains in a new way, add a few successful series and devote more full-length films and films to the world of the future Gotham and the New Batman – it would be incredibly cool! But unfortunately, among the new films and cartoons, there is not even planned something similar to “Batman of the Future” and this is saddening.
