Really the best animated film about all evil and darkness.
If we talk about event involvement, the plot is very exciting. Colorful characters, gloomy tones, verified dialogues, becoming the main character along with an unusual grotesque creates a significant attraction. In addition, a small timekeeping very saturated the tape with events. It was always thought that in a smart movie version it would look even more surreal. Of the directors, only Christophe Gan is seen as an adaptation because of the skillful transmission of the atmosphere of the gaming city of Silent Hill on the screen.
It is quite difficult to break away from the same animation, especially when interested in the subject of all otherworldly subjects. Hunters for evil spirits are very charismatic, although not without some embarrassing pathos. It was only regrettable that history here seemed to be taken out of the middle. Previous movies about the vampire hunter’s story have been discovered, but older movies are harder to watch. Here, even in isolation from the background, everything looks quite fresh and good. Although the style of drawing characters is quite peculiar. Here they are elongated and lanky in the spirit of the Ninji Manuscript. I would like a realistic image like 'Ghost in the Shell'. But even in this form, it's quite lookable. In some moments, there was a certain offense that quite chic characters are taken out of the plot quite early.
As a result, we can say that this gloomy animation definitely succeeded and deserves a place in the collection of any moviegoer. Yes, it is not for everyone and children such a cartoon will not be shown. But adult fans of creativity about any evil spirits should like - the picture is pleasant, the voices are good in any version (although the view was in the English version), faded colors perfectly complement the atmosphere. In general, in its own collection, the film found a well-deserved place along with the hour-long The Last Vampire.
Among the generally recognized masterpieces, such as Akira, Ghost in Shell and others ' Werewolf Squad' is nearing the end and this work. All, as one, sing praises to her in different voices, lifting to heaven a great essence and quality. But is it there? Let's figure it out.
The drawing is certainly great (and, I think, it is to her that this film owes its popularity). The animation is smooth and goes well with the music.
Characters - yes, they are certainly bright and interesting - one company of vampire hunters is worth it! - but compressed timekeeping does not allow to fully reveal any of them, everything is presented very confused and superficial.
Action, of course, good, but one action will not eat. I’ll reformulate it: it needs to be sold competently, (for example, Tarantino), and then it somehow stalled. And even an unexpected, grotesquely majestic setting, although not uninteresting, does not draw the overall picture.
What about the story? Maybe he's good and makes up for it? It seems that everything is normal and clear, without frills.
But in the dry residue, we have a beautiful, bright and entertaining, but completely empty product in which you simply do not believe in your soul.
Letting a new genre into the river is dangerous. You can drink not only a sip of clean, but also sewage. The oceans are not crystal clear. You need to do this very carefully.
The anime world is gigantic. He was rarely touched. But the feeling that the real anime came after meeting with "Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust." There were, of course, both Hotaru no haka and Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi, and more and more. But, anime still presents me exactly something from the category of comics (probably mistaken, and I will be pelted with spoiled products, but this is the idea).
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust takes place in a distant, post-apocalyptic future. As it turned out, this is a continuation of the story of a certain D. Dressed in black with a wide-brimmed three-sided hat covering one eye, he rides his horse through lawless terrain and is himself a half-vampire. The son of a vampire father and a human mother - a combination called "dunpeal" in the film's fictional slang, he is a classic outcast, his only companion and companion is his... left hand. D is hired by a wealthy rancher to save his daughter, an innocent Victorian who was kidnapped, apparently against her will, by a vampire Meier Link who dresses like a dandy of the French old regime. The wealthy rancher has also hired a rival team of mercenaries led by raucous brothers who take their attire advice from wrestlers. Also in their team - slim, strong as a nail Leila. A young woman who hunts vampires to avenge her murdered parents and finds strange sympathy for them. . .
The mixing of genres is incredible. It’s very much like a Western, but in a steam-punk style wrapped in Dracula’s romance. Very many people note in the image D, the young Clint Eastwood from the westerns Sergio Leone is visible to the naked eye.
However, just because it's animated doesn't mean it's for kids; heads roll and blood whips often with fountains. All this is obvious for a more adult audience, not pregnant and not particularly impressionable.
But despite the quite tangible rigidity, the main and important thing that this tape carries in itself - Love conquers everything, even, apparently, Death.
Why you should definitely watch this anime, even if you are not a fan of the genre. This is not a typical (classical) anime. Here is a different, more European graphics, it is a little more “beautiful” than many characters from Japanese artists, although of course there is a lot to argue about. But personally, I really liked this “combination of styles”. Perhaps this was facilitated by joint work with the United States, as well as the fact that the film was drawn under the English voiceover, so it makes no sense to watch the film in the Japanese (Chinese) voiceover, because a lot of dialogue is lost, and voices in the English version are better suited to the characters. The plot itself can be quite intricate, but quite interesting, exciting and has its own intrigue and development. The main thing is that almost all the characters are “alive”, have their own stories and revealed characters. The picture has a beautifully created atmosphere of Gothic, and of course, the influence of the noir genre is undoubtedly felt on it. Also can not leave indifferent soundtracks, perfectly fit into and contribute to the disclosure of drama works and inseparable from it. But at the same time, they are wonderfully listening as independent works. In general, if you want to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of a beautiful, fantastic story, with unusual and creepy, generous and bold heroes, with an original idea, then this movie is for you.

Technologic! I don’t think I’ve ever encountered such a genre. Vampires, dampers, and hunters are usually associated with the 18th and 19th centuries, sometimes with the Renaissance, sometimes with the late Middle Ages. And here in a strange and bizarre way mixed Gothic and futurism. Post-apocalyptic ruins of Gothic buildings. Spaceships and orbital stations in the Gothic style. Everywhere - straight lines and sharp corners, sharp colors (also seemingly sharp).
Characters are also a mixture of times and styles. Post-apocalyptic adventurers on Schuspanzer compete with a Gothic horseman armed with a blade. Cunning technological weapons counter magic. The psionic fights the undead and evil spirits. A vampire rides in a carriage in search of a starship. But the peaceful and background characters are clearly people of the 19th century or early 20th. But this world does not conflict with itself, all these elements are harmoniously combined with each other.
The leitmotif of this work is the strangeness of love. The love of an innocent girl for a villain and the love of an adventurer for someone with whom she is not on the way, and whom she cannot understand. Will they survive all the tests? Is there any place for love in this world of angles and straight lines? Another motif is the theme of "ratboy." A hero fighting his fellow tribesmen and wanting to destroy his own race. Neither good nor evil, neither human nor vampire, alone, alien to both worlds. Where will he go, having fulfilled the task of his life? After viewing, there are many thoughts that fill the understatement.
However, in some moments, inefficiency is even superfluous: almost nothing is said about the situation in the described world, about its history, about the past of the heroes. Where did one of the brothers come from, and why does no one else have them? Where does the main character have a talking parasite and what is he? As far as I understand, this is a film adaptation, and in the original source all this was explained. But not all viewers read the original source, and therefore the understatement in these places became a flaw.
Anime itself despises, because of their primitive desire especially now like Hollywood. Not all anime is naturally so bad, but this object is very useful powerful cartoon.
The world after the nuclear winter, the scorched earth and the whole atmosphere provide a huge amount of good and pleasant viewing for lovers of romance, vampires and chaos, which is happening here, and chaos and absurdity here more than enough.
The drawing here is also very strong, it is also worth warning that in this manner of drawing details Miazaki is felt, although there is a completely different author, but his influence here is.
Of the minuses, you can list only the presence of template characters, and a number of other minor drawbacks of the script, but if you like a serious anime in the spirit of Helsing, then safely watch.
What would happen if you mixed the Victorian era, steampunk-flavored futurism and many references to works of art, including music written under the direction of composers of the Middle Ages? add this mixture to the tight anime genre, and attract an American studio with its intersperses. It will turn out that no one will ever be able to repeat, because the proportions observed in this case are known only by the creator of this film.
It is this film adaptation that cuts off all previous ones, and does not give any chance to appear in the future.
Hunter Dee, a rare example of the reunion of talent and the desire to earn.
Insanely beautiful world, where the characters are not painted cardboards, and their habitat causes the viewer the illusion of depth of space. Isn't that beautiful, friends?
Anime from the category is required to view
A rare case where the sequel significantly exceeds the original. Perhaps a significant difference in the year of release played a role, because the drawing became noticeably better and more pleasant and did not cause irritation even today, after thirteen years, but this is definitely not the main thing.
Both main advantages of the first part remained: the stylistic combination of the Middle Ages and the distant future, as well as the strong similarity of anime to an ordinary cartoon due to age. Plus, a completely inappropriate nudity disappeared here, however, and this is also not the main thing.
The main thing is that here is already really interesting and sometimes even non-standard plot, which really could interest me. Separately, it is worth noting the excellent study of characters in all actors and a variety of interesting, rare and unusual monsters, both from the dark and from vampire hunters!

There are no more cartoons like that. He's one of a kind.
From beginning to end, it is a masterpiece.
There is no modern graphics, there is no deepest meaning (there is certainly a morality, but it is in plain sight), there is not even a striking drawing of characters.
This movie is completely different.
The atmosphere. She's gorgeous. Collected all the best from the post-apocalyptic world, in which ordinary people coexist with different mythical creatures.
Every detail, every location, every angle is shown with great love.
You plunge into this world with your head and it scares you in part, in part depressing.
In other words, it causes emotions in you, does not leave indifferent.
The plot is very interesting, develops dynamically and does not cause boredom. Even the ending, to some extent unexpected, only enhances the emotions that will live in you for a long time after watching. Emotions of deep longing, perhaps.
There is no laughter in this world, there is no happiness in this world. It has only longing, the struggle for survival and not simple Love.
And yet what this cartoon takes. What “highlight” makes you call this movie a masterpiece? Characters.
Each of the characters is incredibly individual. There are no similar NPCs, let alone main or secondary characters.
Everyone has their own character, their own unique skills, their own destiny.
Watching their interweaving, struggle and relationships is incredibly fascinating.
I will be watching this movie again and again. Unfortunately, I could not find anything like this.
“There’s more than one protagonist in every movie... the most important thing is to see the others who will sharpen your attention.”
I literally watched this movie yesterday. As someone who loved the first part, I expected that the second film would not let me down. But... he exceeded all my expectations! My eyes see this film as a real masterpiece!
I watched him and only him without any distractions. From the very beginning, the film fascinates the heart with its atmosphere and musical accompaniment. Later, happiness for the eyes begins: an unusually beautiful drawing for that time like a balm for the soul. And the characters? We still enjoy and admire Dampier Dee. We are afraid of seeing the enemy in the faces of Carville and Meyer, although later it turns out that the villain was alone. We are shocked to learn the secret of Charlotte. And the Marcus brothers... a separate conversation: there everyone is beautiful in his own way!
But what struck the film most was three personalities: Dampier Dee, who has remained admirable since the first film. Meyer, that vampire in love with fragile Charlotte. For her, he is ready to do anything, even lose his own life, as was seen in the episode on the bridge. Grove ... a man whose life has been difficult, if not tragic. But this weak man is actually equal to Dee: he sacrificed himself to save his beloved Layla. What is not the highest virtue? This character made me even more emotional than Dee. Despite the fact that Dampier is the main character, and Grove was not shown as often, Grove deserves no less laurels than our GG.
To sum up, the film is definitely worth watching. It will cause and leave you with the strongest emotions.
