A great movie for its time, I really liked it when it came out. Well shot, shows the beautiful nature of the Amazon, and of course, the inimitable young Jennifer Lopez in all its glory. Also in the film, the most charismatic is played by John Voight, who portrays the main antagonist. In general, fans of old-school movies about monsters and fans of JLO must watch.
According to some researchers who have studied the extent of the spread of modern human civilization on Earth, only 2-3 percent of the territory of our planet remains unexplored. All other lands have long been explored, and they should not look for anything radically unexpected and mysterious. At the same time, it is worth noting that the largest amount of land that has preserved its pristine nature falls on the territories that border the Amazon River, and even with the current unique development of technology, scientists are not able to fully learn what exactly is in the local lands and what exactly can be found here. Of course, every year the countries of Latin America cut down countless cubic meters of priceless Amazonian wood, but even so in the endless rainforests there are enough places where people are not at all easy to get, and where human tribes and animals live, who are not in a hurry to reveal their secrets. It is known that once in a few years, scientists still manage to find on the Amazon a species of amphibians or insects that have not yet been included in the catalogs of the world’s scientific communities, which means that these places are still fraught with a lot of intriguing, and who knows, maybe in the evergreen jungle there are still giant snakes that only thirst to swallow some careless tourists. And just about this and tells us the painting by Luis Llosa under the vividly speaking title 'Anaconda'.
So, the plot of the film takes us to the Amazon, a unique, striking world that is far from fully known, and therefore carries a lot of surprises. And just here decided to go the film crew, which conceived to make a documentary about ' People of the fog', an ancient tribe of aborigines, about which very little is known. On board a small ship, operators, scientists, presenters, and adventurers thought they could reach their destination in no time, but they were never so wrong. Noticing a person who needs help, the participants of the scientific campaign did not expect how many problems it will bring. Paul Saron (John Voight) was on the Amazon for a reason. He hunted down rare, endangered species of animals, and his focus was on finding the legendary giant anaconda that killed his fellow hunters. Now Saron is even more convinced that he must at all costs catch, or even kill the beast, and in this endeavor he is ready to go to the very end. However, the participants of the documentary mission Terry Flores (Jennifer Lopez) and Danny Rich (Ice Cube) are not at all eager to be puppets in the hands of Saron, who increasingly proves that he completely loses touch with reality.
To make a worthy and really exciting, as well as frightening film about a huge snake, you need to have sufficient technical capabilities and skills, because otherwise the whole story turns into a form of farce. Fortunately, the creators of 'Anaconda' had ample support from influential producers and could put all their fantasies into practice. Telling a story about a huge snake that hunts people, the most important thing is to show the audience an effective action, as well as convince him that the anaconda presented on the screen is actually capable of killing and should not flirt with it. And in this regard, this film is doing quite well, even though decades after its premiere, some graphic techniques do not look so convincing. Here, first of all, it is important that the director managed to warm up the suspense, intrigued us with interesting, tense stories about the mysteries of the Amazon and when it was necessary to put into operation the most spectacular visual tools that fully showed how dangerous can be creatures that inhabit hitherto unknown and mysterious lands.
However, in addition to the snake itself, which acts here as the main inviting element to view, it is also necessary to note the cast, which took great responsibility and went to natural filming locations in order to play for the audience a tense, rich story that really can surprise. Leading role in 'Anaconde' played by Jennifer Lopez, at the time of filming the film has already managed to become famous as a rather interesting and promising singer. Of course, to expect great dramatic revelations from Lopez is simply meaningless, and yet she invariably delights with her appearance in front of the eye camera, while speaking quite confidently and completely without irritation. Paired with Lopez looks very interesting Ice Cube, another star from the music industry. Of course, Cube's influence on the plot is slightly less than Lopez's, and yet he looks very organic and has repeatedly proved useful for the story. Not without #39; Anaconde' and without the glorious representatives of the old academic school, who always raise the status for any project. Here, such a weighty, iconic link was John Ware, a representative of the so-called New Wave of Hollywood, who repeatedly played colorful villains. In ' Anaconde' Voight also has a pronounced negative role, and nevertheless he looks interesting, his work is fascinating to follow and it is not clear what to expect from Full Saron. And in a sense, he is a much greater threat than the scaly culprit of this whole celebration.
In addition, it is necessary to note a very beautiful visual component of the film, which was shot in natural locations of tropical landscapes. Of course, not all scenes were staged in the wild, and nevertheless a fair share of Anaconda' was shot where it was not always easy to implement all the director's ideas. But this is just the beauty of the film, whose crew was not afraid of difficulties, took on their shoulders a great responsibility and in the end made our judgment to be not the most striking and brilliant, but definitely memorable film, which is not lost in the history of cinema.
In conclusion, I want to say that ' Anaconda' is an example of a film that can be and remained a hostage of its time by many technical and artistic indicators, and nevertheless this story is still able to surprise and make its viewer worry. So 'Anaconda' is able to surprise viewers and it has something to interest its audience.

At one time, “Anaconda” gave rise not only to a galaxy of sequels, but also gave an incentive to directors to fantasize about “who could fight a giant snake” – the film “Snake Battle” in 2004, and also gave the opportunity to shoot a movie about another creeping creature – “Peton”, 2000. Among such paintings, of course, the Anaconda itself is knocked out of the general row. First of all, the cast.
This is now Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson promoted and famous actors. They were just taking their first steps in a big movie. But after all, in addition to this pair, Ice Cube (already known for “Neighborhood Guys” and “Friday”), Eric Stolz (“Pulp Fiction”, “Fly 2”, “Jerry Maguire”), Jonathan Hyde (“Richie Richie”, “Jumanji”) were also involved in “Anaconda”. Well, John Voight needs no introduction in principle.
In the story, the film crew went through the waters of the Amazon to make a film about a local tribe. However, soon they had to take on board a hunter, whose plans included hunting for a giant snake that lives somewhere nearby.
The film was directed by Luis Llosa, who was also known by 1997 as the author of spectacular action films. Behind his shoulders are such projects as “Sniper” with Tom Berenger and Billy Zane, as well as the film “Specialist” with Stallone and Sharon Stone.
“Anaconda”, as a representative of the world of cinema of the last generation, was created thanks to the efforts of not computer scientists, but technicians who recreated two mechanical snakes with a weight per ton. It is such animatronic giants and played the role of the main villain in the film. Although it looks old, it gives the spirit of antiquity and gives the viewer the opportunity to plunge into the story, which was filmed without using a green background.
It is clear that the creators fantasized on the theme of a giant snake, as creeping bastards such parameters do not exist. Snakes in themselves inspire terror in a person, and their behavior, like a hypnotic effect, is fascinating and stuporous. And here the object of fear (snake) was raised in a square or even in a cube, due to which the horror of such a dangerous neighborhood has proportionally increased and encompassing the characters.
Of course, in real life such an animal will not meet, but due to its exoticity and habitat, the snake embodies a lot of fears and problems waiting for the person who decides to go into the wild impassable jungle.
However, snake terror pales in comparison with the madness and cruelty of the hero John Voight, as he turns out to be the person to be feared in the first place. The actor always managed to play notorious scoundrels - cold and cynical. Here, perhaps, he managed to show all his skills in playing a negative character in all its glory.
Some of the techniques used in the film are taken from various slashers - there is no going anywhere. In any such film, there will be a couple who at their own risk go to have sex and will put themselves in mortal danger, in any such film, often a girl or a woman has nerves of steel and character, in any such film there is a black guy who either dies first or survives.
Despite the large number of nominations for “Golden Raspberry”, “Anaconda” is now a classic of the 90s and can be considered a film, after which J. Lo became a world celebrity. The film is certainly interesting as an adventure movie. The plot is not crazy, but it is fully compensated for its entertainment.
But look at you. I do not impose my opinion on anyone.
The plot (it is actually more or less adequate for this kind of paintings, at least without standard experiments and crazy scientists)! A handful of adventurers go in search of some lost Indian tribes, to make a movie. After a while, they help a strange snake hunter who tells about a large anaconda.
Whatever you want, it's a classic. To scold Anaconda is very difficult. Why? Because in the late '90s, everybody had a tape of a Louis Lewis movie. Go to any neighbor, look at the collection, a black cover with bright yellow eyes, starring John Voight, Jennifer Lopez, Eric Stoltz. Tagline: You can’t scream if you can’t breathe!
Nostalgia. Watched the movies to the holes. For foreign moviegoers, Anaconda is another film about a giant snake. It's a precious memory for us. It happened. Reviewing the picture in 2019 (with great fear, which will not impress), you transform into a child. Cinema goes by in one breath. Only graphics are outdated in some places.
Criticizing the graphics (recall, the 1997 movie about the snake) is a damn stupid thing to do. Check out the animals in the movie Jumanji, similar situation, they look bad. But in both cases, it is forgivable. Anaconda puts you on the screen. I don't care if you know her by heart. Dashing '90s, guys. You try to collect such a caste now, it will not work.
Angelina Jolie's dad outplayed everyone. Golden raspberries? Brad, Voight is very good. A demon, a-hee-hee. Oh, yeah! J. Lo isn't so plastered yet. Ice Cube isn't that fat yet. Kari Wurer and Owen Wilson - grace the background. And as a bonus (no, not Danny Trejo) - a giant voracious snake. Cool, spectacular and fun.
The question is, should I watch Anaconda if I didn’t see it then? It is hard to say with absolute certainty, but it is definitely better than many cheap fakes (a la CiFai). It's not torture.
I love watching movies like that sometimes. It’s a horror movie, but why did I laugh all the time? Because this movie is ridiculous and funny... middle class. Maybe if I had watched this movie as a kid, I would have taken it as a 100% serious horror/adventure thriller, and then I would have liked it a lot more. But I was the first, and only, to watch it at the age of 29, and I want to say that this film is far from perfect. He's got a carload of shackles and blunders. Actor's play - once in a while not necessary. The props and scenery are average, which ultimately gives us a very mediocre action. Let's take a closer look.
Scenario/Scenario: No questions, all according to the canons of zoochores. Well, apart from the standard claim, "We've seen it all 100 times." But let’s discard this claim, I still sat down to see the movie “Anaconda” and did not expect to see anything more. Everything else is level. As always, there should be a person in the zoochore who is worse than a predator, etc. Oh, no, there's something else. What the hell is this anaconda so insatiable? Why does she swallow a person, immediately attack other people, instead of crawling to digest? This, again, is common for zoochorals. Well, then it's okay.
Casting/ Acting game: Well, the cast they collected for the 90s curly. Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, John Voight, Owen Wilson, Danny Trejo. Did he shoot? Jennifer Lopez is only needed here to fall into the water in her snow-white t-shirt, under which she did not wear a bra. Why didn't you? I want all the men to stick to the sight of her nipples sticking out under her shirt. No, you won’t get it wrong, the spectacle is interesting... for the clip, but not for the movie. Next Ice Cube Well, it's bad here. I don't know who got him into acting. It's just like the other movies I've seen with him. He either overplays (in the action scenes) and seems ready to destroy enemies with one frightening expression. Or he does not play (in all other scenes) and walks in the “mud-brick” mode. John Voight's acting immediately gives off an unexpected plot twist associated with his character, despite his attempts to play something neutral. Owen Wilson There is no tail in the mare. Perhaps because this comedic actor is difficult to perceive in the way he plays in the film. Well, finally, Danny Trejo ... forget about him, he is killed immediately after the end of the opening credits, and his game here does not make sense to evaluate.
Decorations/ Props/Visual: I'm sorry, there's a joint on the joint. Only the Amazon rainforest looked good and cool. Fortunately, the creators managed not to spoil the footage. Otherwise, it's terrible. For starters, a bit of a dull math: the film's budget is $45 million. The film came out in 1997. In the same year, "Titanic" was released with a budget of 200 million, and "Star landing" with a budget of 105 million. That is, technically "Anaconda" should look like a quarter of the visual "Titanic" or half of "ZD". So where is it, I'm asking you? The scenery looks unnaturally fragile, with props everything laughingly bad. In the film, a flashlight that has been in the water continues to shine, a rifle - to shoot, and dynamite - to explode. The anaconda itself looks completely fake. For 1997 and 45 lemons of greens, such a complete flop. The first "Trembling of the Earth", released in 1989 for 11 million, in terms of monster visuals, will do "Anaconda" without strain.
Some may think that I am trying to present Anaconda as a very bad movie. But no, it's not. Yes, he is far from perfect, but he is not bad either. It's interesting, dynamic, colorful. Yes - ridiculous, yes - funny, although not a comedy. Not even the film itself, but its absurdity and clumsyness. But, it does not cause irritation or boredom. It is quite possible to see it once with friends under the Pivchansk. But nothing more.
When watching this film, one does not leave the idea that it is based on some adventure novel by Jules Verne, so successfully it conveys the exciting atmosphere of such a mysterious, distant and exotic region as the Amazon jungle, where piranhas and caimans are not the most terrible of the threats that lie in wait for us. There are also anacondas – giant snakes that kill not with poison, but with their arms, in which their victims are suffocated.
The founder of the zoohorror category is, of course, Steven Spielberg with his Jaws, which are still very popular all over the world, even after the release of many imitations that could not catch up or, especially, overtake the quality of his film. But in 1997, the director Luis Llosa undertakes to create his film about a killer animal with an original plan. And the beloved Anaconda was born! Like Spielberg, Llosa decided to show us not only scenes with the attack of a snake, but also to hurt us, albeit simple, but the conflict of the main characters, among which are both traitors and faithful members of the expedition. In addition, for the audience, the alluring details of the tropics, in which so many dangers lurk, are successfully transmitted. The threat awaits not only in the water, but also on land and even on trees. And everywhere we can be overtaken by terrible anacondas.
At the time of 1997, the possibilities of computer graphics were not yet fully used, and therefore life-size models of snakes were used on the filming. The result was a credibility so rare in Hollywood movies twenty years later. Each snake seems to be alive, and interest in viewing adds both the general intensity of the situation and a couple of views from inside the snake. After the film ends, you begin to wonder: what is worse - to be eaten by a snake, or fall into the hands of brutal people - the most formidable predators on the planet?
A lot contributed to the success of the film and the excellent play of actors, of which in the first place I want to put John Voight - to portray the villain he manages not only with words and gestures, but even the curvature of the face. I can imagine an actor sighing with a sad smile on the set because he had to play such a scoundrel. The presence in the cast of Jennifer Lopez and Ice Cube also helped the film to overtake competitors, giving us excellent characters in their performance. Finally, it is impossible not to mention Jonathan Hyde, who perfectly fit into the company of careless researchers of the Amazon wilds.
"Anaconda" is a masterpiece adventure zoohorror, which is in the same line with the films "Jaws", "Primitive Evil" and, perhaps, "Deep Blue Sea". But at the same time, it is beautiful as a film in general. For those who want to enjoy something good from the nineties, I definitely recommend Anaconda among the first films.

In our time, there are many incompetent and delusional crafts on the theme "Someone eats someone, and then he is destroyed, and in the end it turns out that there were baby monsters", but more thoughtful and serious pictures about predators can be counted on the fingers, usually these are high-budget theatrical films, in which not only a much better visual than in the squalor of the "Tentac" type and similar idiotic attacks, but also brilliant ideas, interesting plots and dialogues. If Steven Spielberg’s “Jaws” and his “Jurassic Park” are rightfully considered the immortal classics of shark and dinosaur movies, respectively, then the best film about giant predatory snakes will always remain “Anaconda”, although I personally believe that its sequel with the subtitle “Hunting for the Cursed Orchid” surpassed the first part in the quality of the storyline. And, no matter how many incompetent sequels for TV or release immediately on video, characterized by banal plots and squalid special effects, shame the legendary first series of franchises like this, such crafts will collect only negative reviews, while the first parts will remain favorite paintings among connoisseurs of the genre. People will remember only the first two parts of Anaconda, and the third and fourth parts will be forgotten as a terrible dream. After all, the first two series of the franchise showed an example of how to shoot horror about reptiles. The plot, characters, dialogues, special effects - everything pleases the eye and hearing.
The film shows a group of people who come to the jungle to shoot a movie, and on the way down the river they rescue a snake hunter who assures that his activities are quite legal. Before the characters encounter the one about which the name of the film speaks, they will be attacked by a boar, and one of them will be bitten by a poisonous wasp, and it will be possible to save it only by piercing the throat. Only in the middle of the film, the first attack of the anaconda on a person occurs, after which a new acquaintance of travelers says that millions can pay for a live anaconda.
The film became an example for the new masters of cinema about predators: it is noticeable that in the new horror film “Jaws 3D” it was Anaconda that was imitated, namely, the idea of filming on a pond, and the image of the villain. Despite the fact that the first half of the film does without action with the participation of the one about which the name of the film speaks, until the middle of the timekeeping, the authors also had something to surprise and please the viewer, and therefore “Anaconda” can be called an attraction, because special effects here are serious, and there are many of them, which is rare for a movie about monsters. A rather fascinating movie that can please not only visually, but also an elementaryly interesting exciting story, in which both positive heroes and greedy characters stand before mortal danger, for whom human life means nothing. Who will survive in a difficult situation – you will be interested to know.
The movie is awesome. I've seen it many times. It's not boring. Anaconda's murder scene is just brutal. Especially when Anaconda squeezed Saron, the poor man's cheekbone cracked. In general, the film turned out to be very interesting and exciting. The performance of the actors is excellent - everyone respect and respect. I recognized the Transformers actor. The Ant King actress. The actor from Meet the Parents. The Titanic actor. Macho actor and nerd. So Jennifer Lopez found out - who doesn't know her? Anyway, everybody's done great. The scenery in the film is excellent - the snake itself is made very qualitatively and naturally - as alive. It is very large – such large in nature and does not happen. The jungle itself is as beautiful as the river. Well, the outfits of the main characters of the film are also good - everything is very stylish.
The philosophy of the film is that there are such huge snakes. And the film teaches you to just relax and watch the movie - it's after all entertainment. In short, the credit philosophy came out.
Anaconda is a great thriller about a giant snake. Everybody watch. But the 2nd part will be weaker. But about that later. In the meantime.

Anaconda or I like this movie. Remember that I was fond of horror as a teenager, then I watched many different films, Leprechauns, Children's Games with Chucky, Freddy Krueger, and other films, but the horrors about animals always stood apart for me, because these stories were the most terrible, because Freddy and other monsters are fiction, but snakes, sharks, spiders and other creatures are real and they are dangerous for real. For this reason, I love such films, and also because, Anaconda is one of the most noticeable and interesting horror films about snakes.
A film crew travels across the Amazon to find and shoot a documentary about an unknown tribe called the “Men of the Fog.” On the first day of the expedition, the team picks up an unknown person on the ship, who says that his ship is stuck and he suffered distress for a couple of days. Soon this man takes control of the ship in his own hands.
The plot is light, dynamic, if at first the film looks a little boring, then with the appearance of Mr. Saron, the film becomes like a thriller in which every such stranger is a harbinger of death and fear.
John Voight in Mr. Saron, embodies the true spirit of the hunter and madman, he is convincing and attractive at first, as if lulling attention with his charm and knowledge, he gradually and unobtrusively convinces you of his plans. And then you don't notice how you succumbed to his words, changing your original course to where this strange man pointed. It is safe to say that this role is the most successful for the actor, so confidently, strongly and absolutely charismatic played Voight snake hunter.
Jennifer Lopez as Terry Florentz, played as expected. Where to cry, where to scream with fear and so on. I can’t say that this role has become outstanding or noticeable for her.
But most of all, I liked the characters who played the crew members. But Ice Cube in the role of the cameraman looked the best, such a pretty character for whom you care most and who is usually the main lucky person in history. Surprised and pleased with the presence of Owen Wilson, in this film he played a controversial guy who, although he understood the danger of the situation, agreed to make a deal with the demon. I also liked the hero of Westridge, the leading film, despite his capricious disposition and cowardice, he turned out to be a good person. And even being a fan of films and books by Stephen King, I could not see here a familiar actress Cary Wuwer who played a fatal gypsy beauty in “Thinning”. In that film, she got the role of director of the film, unfortunately her inconspicuous role.
But most of all, I remember the anaconda, the superb and luxurious queen of all snakes, a dangerous, predatory, violent killer. Anaconda in this film embodied one of the most terrible nightmares of man in life.
Verdict, the film is not as bloody and cruel as the famous "Jaws", but still very easy to view, also liked that after the second half of the dynamics in the film was not lost and the ending was very entertaining.
Maybe Saron ate Matteo? It’s a painfully full look.
How much the worldview of a person changes over the years. For example, in childhood, when there was no Internet, no one even heard about film critics, let alone try yourself in such a field, films were divided into two types - one-time and reusable films. Disposable films looked with interest, but after watching them, the idea arose that somehow you do not want to watch it anymore and, for example, if the film was on a cassette, then they rushed to sell it to special stalls, well, or exchange it. Reusable films are those films that children watched to the holes and the tape recorder, over time, began to chew the film, as long as he was not tormented by another viewing of “Remember All” or “Evil Dead 3”. So our guest today falls from the category of “reusable” films, which I, as a child, watched and watched, and now ... now nostalgia played a cruel joke with me, putting refreshing memories. Oh, I shouldn't have done it. No way. Well, this is Anaconda, meet me.
A group of young people, having watched the documentary programs with the participation of Jacques-Yves Cousteau, come to the conclusion that they are no worse than the famous Frenchman and can also go into the impenetrable wilderness to find what is not in a fairy tale to say a pen to describe. Called scientists, the young people rent a boat and embark on a perilous journey across the Amazon in search of the mythical Sheresham tribe everyone talks about but nobody has seen. Who is on our valiant team? First of all, this is the captain of this trough, with the appearance of an adult man, on whose face there is a childish resentment and he tries in every possible way to remind others that he is not anyone, but the captain of the ship. His first assistant is a former lover, to whom he still has some feelings, which is not surprising - the girl is not far away, spineless, but beautiful. The rest of the team consists of a nigger-scumbag, who looks at everyone with a brutal look and plays with his knife, which, judging by its size, does not exceed the size of the dignity of the "black brother" - a knife in the diameter of millimeters sixty-seventy. The aristocrat-drinker, whom the team does not put in anything and he is here only to annoy others. We also have a pair of rabbits (I don’t think I should go into details), as well as a patched guide who fits the team – clumsy and narrow-minded. Needless to say, the team of dolts did not really prepare for a long expedition and did not learn the rules of safety in the jungle and on the river? Of course not! Why would they? They are sure that nothing will happen to them. As the young man Jim Helsey from the movie “The Traveler” was sure, he was driving along a deserted road and decided to pick up a harmless hitchhiker.
Speaking of birds. The film “The Traveler” was mentioned not by chance, because our heroes will meet with a man whose boat was damaged and who needs help. This man is called Paul Saron and he is a former priest, and now a smuggler and big game hunter, in our case on huge snakes - anaconda. The characters of the picture grumbled for decency, but did not give this special significance. After all, everyone earns a living as they can. And then Paul Ssaron is the only person who is well versed in the jungle and knows all the workarounds. Moreover, he assists a member of the team when the latter falls into the binding. It would seem that the heroes should rally around the “fellow traveler”, but to be sure, so no. Instead, aspiring scientists conclude that Paul Ssaron is too suspicious because he knows so much. Well, the fact that the former priest was in this jungle for almost twenty years is no longer quoted, no? Everyone is afraid of what creepy faces the hero of John Voight makes? Yeah, that scared me as a kid, too, but I was ten! What is the justification for the heroes of the picture? He is different from them and therefore dangerous. Oh, what medieval manners.
Anaconda? What about the anaconda? Crawls through the jungle, and the panther strangles to such a state that poor cats eyes fly out of the skull, along with the remains of the brain. No, I won’t pick on the behavior of the snake, since it is clear that there was not a single specialist in snakes among the crew, and whether this is important, because in horror stories rarely show the real state of affairs. Much more important is that the computer snake really turned out to be impressive, and the murders she commits impressive - one is more beautiful than the other and the scene at the waterfall can be considered apogee. Even the behavior of the snake fits into the logic of horror films - the heroes invade the territory of the anaconda for which it kills the latter one by one. So it's all right.
What's wrong, then? It’s not right that the only character that’s written down and interesting is Paul Saron, who, although obsessed with hunting a giant snake, didn’t plan to confront the people on the ship. Yes, he cheated a little so that the self-proclaimed scientists sailed where he needed, but even then he did not lie and led the heroes to the Sheresham tribe, why more than once and not twice you ask questions - is John Voight's hero really such a villain as everyone thinks he is or the characters of the picture themselves asked? I would not ask this question if the undereducated had more or less written characters and did not finish each other's sentences in order to give importance to their hero and not look like an empty place. However, the absence of more or less reliable emotions allows you to compare the participants of this expedition with gazibo. Beautiful.
The scenario itself is also wrong, in which there are so many holes and logical inconsistencies that it turns into a sieve. I’m not going to beat around the bush and take the opening scene of the film: Denny Trejo’s hero, at the sight of the giant snake he’s been hunting for for countless years, decides to shoot himself instead of firing six bullets into the stupid snout. And this is despite the fact that the anacondas are quite enough for one shot, which the viewer will later witness. What do you say? Screenwriters do not eat their bread for nothing.
Outcome? A bright and beautiful film, with a cute snake and charismatic heroes of John Voight, in which the script begs to be shot, and the rest of the actors do not even bother to show feelings and emotions if not towards each other, then at least to the primitive fear in the form of a huge snake. To watch or not? Decide for yourself.
Yes, this is my first pen test on Kinopoisk, so as they say, don’t judge her harshly. So, the movie "Anaconda."
Genre
Horror, you say? Perhaps I will not agree and define Anaconda as an adventure-fiction thriller with elements of a horror film. Someone will ask: is this really important? Although any more or less knowledgeable moviegoer perfectly understands the difference between a thriller and a horror movie. In simple terms, a high-quality thriller should keep the viewer in constant tension, and the ideal horror film should actually scare.
Thus, in the case of Anaconda, we run the risk of getting a whole bunch of negative reviews about the film from “zealous horror fans.” They'll say, "Bad movie!" It's no big deal! Not enough blood! and, despite the superficiality of this verdict, they will still be right about something. They expected to see one thing, and as a result they got another. "Anaconda" really can not boast of an abundance of heartbreaking and bloody scenes, frankly terrifying moments, causing the viewer to urgently escape, sorry, to the restroom. The film is just conscientiously trying to match its native genre of “thriller”, only occasionally really “parrotting” the inexperienced viewer.
Plot
I don’t see any reason to retell it, because it is already presented in the description of the film. The trailer is also quite informative. I will only note that unexpected plot twists and any special "chips", compared to other films of this genre, you most likely will not find. But that doesn’t make the movie bad.
Characters
Both the main characters and secondary characters in Anaconda are well drawn and, in general, have a certain personality. Why would you think? Still, most of them eventually destined the role of “meat” for the “giant mistress of the jungle.” By the way, many actors involved in the project are far from unknown. John Voight, Owen Wilson, Jennifer Lopez, for example. All this only confirms that the film was not originally conceived as a “passage”, but was supposed to stand out from the general mass of such films.
Atmosphere
In my subjective opinion, if the main actions on the plot unfold somewhere against the backdrop of picturesque nature, then this already provides the film with a fat plus in advance. It does not matter where the scenes take place: on an island in the middle of the ocean, in the snowy mountains or in the Amazon jungle. And I think the latter look the most exotic.
Musical accompaniment
It is, even if not at the Oscar level. But the melodies are appropriate for each individual episode of the film. Especially memorable is the soundtrack that sounds at the end of the film, along with the final credits.
Awards
Don’t be too embarrassed by the impressive number of nominations for the Golden Raspberry Award. Personally, I have never shared the core values of an Oscar-winning jury. It is well known that Oscar winners traditionally have a weakness for deep-social (as they think) film dramas, preferably on themes of homophilia, anti-racism or American patriotism. At the same time, all sorts of thrillers about monstrous reptiles are not particularly appreciated there, and even with the hated Jennifer Lopez in the title role. Poor actress almost every year nominated for “anti-Oscar” – “Golden raspberry”. I think I might have hurt someone...
But the jury of another prestigious film award – “Saturn” nominated “Anaconda” as “best film of the year”, and Jennifer Lopez – as “best actress”.
Therefore, do not try to understand the logic of famous film critics, but just devote a night to watching Anaconda, and then form your own opinion about the film.
Recommendations
If after watching "Anaconda" You, like me, will find this film interesting, you can continue to get acquainted with the “main character”, evaluating another film – “Anaconda 2: The Hunt for the Cursed Orchid”. In my opinion, the second part is qualitatively inferior to the first and, above all, in terms of the level of the cast. But, at the same time, it has its "highlights" - a very interesting plot and relatively good special effects.
Summary
For my part, Anaconda and John Voight vs. Jennifer Lopez and Company receives positive feedback and a well-deserved assessment.

Anaconda is one of my favorite movies, probably because this film is straight from childhood, and as you know, it was better and the grass is greener.
So anaconda is a typical film about ordinary animal predators only much larger by the word from a scientific point of view, the film is simply terrible in reality snakes do not know how to regurgitate the victim as shown in the film, and even more so to beep and make sounds not peculiar to snakes, but if you do not go into details, but just watch that film will give unforgettable sensations of drive, adventure and a pinch of fear.
A small group of scientists go to film the elusive tribe on the Amazon River, but on the way they meet an evil and very voracious snake, but this is not their last problem.
The result is a cool adventure film with a drop of horror, besides with excellent special effects and a realistic model of snakes.

A rather average director Luis Llosa shot the first Anaconda in 1997. Thriller about predatory reptiles so liked by the American public (and the public around the world) that collected about 3 times more than was spent on the creation. I honestly don’t understand how such a mediocre film could appeal to many people, but I firmly believe that the idea itself is quite interesting and has the right to exist.
Plot. The film crew goes on a trip to the Amazon in search of an ancient little-known tribe. They want to be the first to make a documentary about the Aborigines. Along the way, they rescue a man whose ship is stuck in algae. But the team does not even know for what purpose the stranger swam in these places.
I would like to make the first claims to the filmmakers. Why are we constantly confused and fed false information? Let's turn first to Mother Nature. There is no such gigantic anaconda. In addition, these snakes try to avoid large animals, not to mention the fact that they do not attack humans. But they do not want to explain this to us in the course of the plot, preferring to ignore many questions. Since such monsters are clearly not a failed experiment by some mad scientist, there is only one option left. It turns out something of a kind of fiction, although the picture did not declare itself in this genre. There are horror stories and a few more big mistakes. First, anacondas do not break the bones of their victims, but strangle them. The skin is usually shed in water, not on land. Even if the creators want to present the viewer with fiction, this does not mean that you need to shove outright lies into the tape.
Atmosphere. Throughout the film, we are asked to watch a small group of people floating on a small boat down the river. Believe me, there is absolutely nothing interesting about this. There are no unexpected moments in the thriller, everything is very banal and boring. The motive of the unknown man becomes clear in a minute, so do not expect unpredictability from the film. More or less interesting was only the ending, where the battle with a huge monster reaches its climax. The final snake does look impressive, but I still don’t understand how you could spend $45 million on the movie. He looks like a maximum of 5. And that's because in several creatures, computer graphics are very recognizable.
Fear/Strain. The inconclusive play of the actors negated all attempts to make the movie at least a little scary. Moreover, the reality of what is happening every minute is becoming less and less believed. Incredibly fast anaconda can not catch the victim a few meters from her, but she withstands an explosion of incredible power and just lights up, and does not fly to pieces. By the end of the horror film, it seems that you are not watching a movie, but an unsuccessful performance on a small set. In fact, it is.
Music. Despite the fact that the soundtrack and sound in general is not bad here, I will not single out the musical accompaniment. It's not really remembered.
Result. As a result, we have a spectacular finale with a good action, decent music and Jennifer Lopez in the role of Rambo. In this regard, I am not very surprised by the numerous nominations of the picture for the Golden Raspberry. But I am very surprised that she never received any awards.

(38%), the biggest casualty is the viewer who watched the misunderstanding.
The film "Anaconda" by Louis Llos at one time managed to become a hit and find the audience's sympathy. Let's look at why.
First, the theme of the confrontation between man and nature has always been interesting to the viewer. When movies about cops and bandits get bored, we get a movie about a giant anaconda. Even knowing that the plot of the film will be uncomplicated, but I still want to see it. And when the film of 97 release looks fresh and interesting in terms of the same visual effects, it is another plus of the film.
Secondly, the film is very interesting. Here I mean the scene of the painting. Throughout the film, we observe a team of researchers who are in the heart of the mysterious jungle of the Amazon. All these landscapes, views, specially built scenery for the film are immersed in a completely unfamiliar environment for us, where all sorts of creatures and hundred-meter anacondas crawl in the water somewhere.
Thirdly, the film has a good cast in the face of such stars as: Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, John Voight, Jonathan Hyde, Owen Wilson and Danny Trejo. For me, Jennifer Lopez has long proved that she is also a great actress, past her main profession. On account of her many good roles and among them there are worthy dramatic images. Specifically here, Jay Lo looked so good on the screen. Well, even just knowing what Lopez looks like now, it's just interesting to look at it from the distant 97. For Ice Cube, the role in this film was far from the first, but at that time the most ambitious, both as a large screen time and the scale of the project. In the film, he looks confident and good. I will not tell you who Ice Cube is, you should ask any person listening to Hip-Hop and he will tell you everything better than me. There are no complaints about John Voight, just personally I somehow do not perceive him in such an unusual way for him. You seem to be watching him, but somehow you're not going to think he's a good uncle. I guess I was just used to seeing him on screen like this, and Anaconda tried to destroy my views and preferences. I liked the presence of Owen Wilson and Jonathan Hyde (a hunter from Jumanji). Wilson just liked his presence and the so-called dilution of the cast, and "Hunter" I was just glad to see!
In general, friends, "Anaconda" is worth watching if you want to watch an action adventure (if of course you can express yourself so). But in any case, the huge devouring everything around the anaconda, a good visual range, beautiful locations and an excellent cast will not leave you indifferent.
Another good old horror movie I saw as a child. It was only after maybe 13 years that I was able to review it again.
The problem with short films is that not everything is done. 1:29 is really not enough for a movie like this. Maybe the budget is small, or the writers did not think about the success of the picture, so they did not strain, for which they earned their nominations, and a whole set. I think we could have done better.
I've also swelled the cast. No, they all played well. And Jay Lo, and Ice Cube, and Voight, and even Owen Wilson. As if, on the one hand, it seems that a team consisting of such types is normal. But the problem is the perception of the viewer, who already knows that some of them just spoil the picture. Although Owen Wilson looks pretty good in thrillers. It's very cool...unusual.
Operational work. One shot is when the camera is flat and then becomes at an angle. What the hell was that? No, seriously, is that better? The cameraman must be like, "I'll take it this way." No, I'll put it at an angle. So cooler. No way. It's not that cool. Not in all shootings at an angle, it came out so cool.
Some actions in the storyline painfully pass quickly. And so fast that during stress, there is a sharp jump down. I mean, I didn't get scared.
Idea and plot are excellent. I like that. So, if you imagine, in reality, few people can watch a person eating anaconda. And here it was shown in all its glory. Few people want to raise adrenaline in the Amazon jungle. And you do not need to watch the Animal Planet channel to understand that when you meet anaconda, you are Khan.

I watched the 1997 Hollywood thriller Anaconda a long time ago, and I remember this movie for a long time. The movie is exciting and adventure. The action takes place in the center of the Amazon River, and we see a bloody history that unfolds dynamically and spectacularly.
We see explorers sailing in a cataract along a river and meet a mysterious stranger who is secretly hunting for a huge snake lurking in the heart of a wild and unknown river. Events were not long in coming, and we see an interesting and dangerous story in which not everyone will survive.
Of course, the actor I remember most of all Jennifer Lopez. She's an interesting actress, and in this movie looks good in the lead role. Actor John Voight was created to play negative roles, and he copes with this difficult role.
“Anaconda” is a film about a cruel and cold-blooded snake into whose possessions strangers have swam, and now they are waiting for a bloody battle. The movie is less successful, but of course there is something to complain about. Actors play without falsehood, which is the most important thing. I think that this thriller has been watched by many, but those who have not yet seen can safely watch this film and plunge into a dangerous and chilling story, which gives goosebumps.

Not to say that “Anaconda” is a special horror film with an animal as an antagonist, but for many viewers this film has long gained cult status. There's probably a reason. I think it’s not so much about the actors as it is about the atmosphere of the film, worked down to the smallest detail. People oppressed by the plot of the picture by a giant snake do not know when and where it will strike, especially since the anaconda, the mentioned snake, can hide under water. Probably, in many ways, it is suspense that contributes to watching the film - the viewer is constantly in suspense, "Anaconda" simply does not have time to bother him.
At the same time, what to hide, the plot is ordinary and special delights do not spoil. However, it is remarkable that on a subconscious level, what is shown cuts into memory, stays with you forever. Even many years later, watching the film for the nth time, you still experience a strange pleasure from watching, but at the same time you do not cease to worry about the characters, although you already know for sure who will die and who will remain alive.
I don’t want to say such lofty words, but Anaconda is a phenomenon not accepted or understood by many critics at the time. Of course, this is an ordinary, albeit sometimes shocking horror scenes, but it is not possible not to fall in love with it! Separately, I would like to note the presence in the plot of the film of a hero whose motives for a long time remain unclear - which only adds intrigue to the frame. The mind seems to understand that this hero will definitely soak something, but we are carefully led away from him, assuring that not everything is as banal as it seems at first glance, that in fact fiction. Skillful work of writers, with which you can not argue.
The verdict. An interesting and intriguing film, which was born by time and place, has gained a cult status, which no one will take away from him.
