There is only what we believe in. We were all afraid of the dark as children. Someone in the dark saw monsters and monsters, someone terrible beasts, someone else something else. But what we all had in common was that when the lights were on, all those fears disappeared. In the film “Fear of the Dark” we are talking about a boy whose fear of the dark was not just unfounded, but had good reasons.
The film reminded me of Boogieman and Tooth Fairy, which also dealt with the fear of the dark and the monsters that lived in that very darkness. However, this picture is more good-natured, and does not show us scenes of murder and violence. By and large, the film takes place in just one day, but during this day two brothers, the main character of the picture, change.
There are scary moments in the film, but there are not many. Basically, we are frightened by loud sounds and unexpectedly appearing faces from the dark, and not at all scary. So in terms of horror film is clearly weak.
What I liked was Kevin Zegers’ great acting as his big brother. It is on his play that the film holds. I also liked the ending, each character changed in his own way and made certain conclusions for himself.
By and large, we have an easy family horror film that will help pass the evening, but no more, you will remember it for a short time.
